2024 Draft Thread

You play them, but minimise the time they'll be on ball or competing against bigger stone players. Eg I'd put a Whitlock in a forward pocket next to Lynch and Kosi, rather than have him replace Kosi. I'd put FOS on a HFF and give him cameos rather than have him replace Dow or Prestia in the middle (for example).

Reckon whoever we pick will be an immediate upgrade on Dow in the middle and probably already has a stronger body, either way as long as they don't end up like Ross & Sonsie and are never seen in the guts again.

Gibcus was fit and healthy before the draft but that's not the point, Lalor has an injury history, these are facts and not just speculation. Combine that with a lack of onball exposure at state level and an undeveloped tank and you have potential fault lines which could derail his progress.
Thats what makes it High risk but even higher reward
Wardlaw also had injury issue's but looks like being a top tier player for the next 10 years

I think with Lalor the risk would all depend on the detail of the injuries and what they are , How they were acquired and how bad they were and what was the cause. i guess we shall all see on who we take and where Lalor is selected

The medical info the club has will most likely determine that call but simply on exposed talent and projected upside he is #1 for me
but who knows we may decide jagga/Smillie is more what Richmond are looking for

Yes we really must get pick 2.
If it means losing 6 then too bad.
We need Lalor and FOS...the best 2 mids available...Draper and Langford will be gone by 6.
10 and 11 will get a Reid and Armstrong..or similar.
Smith gone by 10.

Thats 4 high quality players.
18 a Faull or Shanahan or Whitlock.
Give the next with 6 to Nth.
One more say 23...Hannaford or Dattoli.
Thats a top haul of 6 .
Maybe one more ...Algar.

Very happy with that.

The only way im ok with losing #6 is if its combined with North's Future 1st rounder
I would do #6 + #11 for #2 + F1
But if its only for #2 then maybe not #10+#23 would be my offer and still look to get another 2 F1's from Essendon,North,StKilda

Im ok with #1 , #2 , #6 , #11 , #18 this draft with possibly another later pick making that 6 selections and have 3 inside 15 next year

Nth want 6 for Tauru...no way around that.
Yep F1 would do it but I doubt they will give it away.
I think we have to give 6 and 24 or so to get 2..straight swap.
It is worth it to get the two best 250 game mids this year....plus a Reid ..plus Sharp next year. Midfield sorted. We are winners.

Well i doubt they get a better pick than #15 for their F1 in this draft
Tauru wont be selected prior to #6 #6 + #11 for #2 +F1 is the right pick

IF we rate FOS or who ever goes at #2 better than who we may have at #6 or we are genuinely divided between 2 players for pick #1

I am still hoping for Langford, then Smith at #1 and #6 - there’s leadership x2, class x2, hopefully 500 AFL games durability between them (touch wood).

I know everyone is gunning for either / both FOS or Lalor but I reckon right now we are in a fragile position as a club and I think our only top 10 pick for quite a few years has been injured. If our #1 and #6 don’t produce quality footy over the long haul then we will find ourselves in a lolnorf position.

Even though I believe FOS and Lalor have the clear most potential I think Smith and Langford are the safest bets , what rebuild/ draft strategy we use will depend on who we go , love to get Langford at 6 if we don’t get pick 2

Same re Langford at #6, but somehow I reckon there is a better chance Smith slides to #6 than Langford for some reason.

Love to know what strategy the club has cooked up for this draft.

Langford will not last till 6
Smith Langford combo mighty slow

FOS injuries are minor...no issue.
Lalor an early risk...but he is a gun.
Reid is the smartest mid with silky skills.

Lalor = Dusty
FOS = Cotch
Reid = Prestia
Dattoli = Edwards
Armstrong and Shanahan/ Faull = x2 B grade Jack R.

This one hell of a reboot start.
It is the core we need.
More to come next 2 years.

We get this with picks 1,2,10,11,20.
Dont need 6....provided Reid survives to 10.
Anything else a bonus.

The fact none of these deals went through prior to Fridays deadline despite all the meetings that would have occurred, the most probable outcome is that the top 6 or 7 picks stay as is.

There is a strong message in that Melbourne and St Kilda and even GWS with their handy 3 picks haven’t gone hard at #1 or #2. There ain't no Dusty or Cotch in this draft as far as we can see.

Also I haven’t heard anything about GWS trying to nosie up into the top 10 with 2 of their picks again says a lot about the perceived depth.

It could all change come draft day, but as you all know, I am content with our picks as is (unless something unbelievable materialises) and despite the clamour for Lalor or FOS on here, the message, which has been consistent for 12 months is that any number of 6 players could go number 1.

Compare to 2025 draft, consensus is that most people have called out who number 1 will be already.

Yep. I reckon there will be plenty to live trading on the night(s) but it will all be reacting to how the draft pans out and where players go.
