2024 Draft Thread

WIth so many picks I've found myself reading mock drafts - and often going - yeah nah, that's not who I would select for us. The two players that many mocks send our way are Trainor and Dodson. I don't want either, the former due to the concussion risk, the latter because I'd rather bring in more developed rucks.

I definitely have preferences for some players over others, but actually I'd be happy with most top 25 ranked players. e.g. Reid is one I would be happy with, but not with an early pick. I'd be happy with Jagga, Draper, Langford, at 6, but not at pick 1 or even 2 (i.e. I'd rather have Lalor and FOS if we had 1&2).

I'm interested in hearing about any top 30ish ranked players that PRE'enders would prefer not to draft with our current batch of picks?
Matt Wittlock - Big fella, still raw. Seems much bigger risk and these types with no clear position fail more regularly than they succeed. Needs to improve his contested work/toughness (going by online feedback). big fellas who don't want to snap their opponents into halves don't succeed at AFL level. They might eek out a journeyman life, but we need more than that. Not saying he won't succeed, but I'm minimising risk.
Hotton- same reason. Minimising risk with that ACL.
Gross - needs to work on composure and finishing cleanly? No thanks. If he panics at u18, that says he's got a long way to be ready for AFL
Moraes - kicking technique/disposal needs improvement. Might be too late and too hard as the game gets faster at AFL level. Pass
Trainor - Risk mitigation - concussions

There is talk that in that scenario they will use the future pick to try and get another first round pick this year. I wonder who Adelaide are keen on as Draper would almost definitely get through to their pick 4.
Crows wouldnt be the only team desperate to use F1 to get back in first round this year
Theyll have a lot of competition

Will give our picks a crack -

1 - Sam Lalor

6 - Jagga Smith (Think he gets through as I think Melbourne will take Langford or Smillie)

10 - Harry Armstrong (I believe he slides and will still be available here)

11 - Murphy Reid

18 - Jack Whitlock

20 - Jesse Dattoli

23 - Kayle Gerreyn

24 - Trade
I'd be very, very happy with that result.

And if Smith was, unfortunately, gone, it would mean Langford of Smillie were likely there, Draper if all my finger crossing pays off.

I’ve posted previously that I thought that Carlton traded up to target Draper as a ready made midfielder who adds speed… and is mates with the Campo twins…..

Then they spread the FoS rumour to distract RADelaide who expected Draper to get to 4.

Might be wrong but this may explain the sudden interest in 2….

Not sure they get it…. And then take Mick at 4 as per @Dyer'ere sleuthing….

Regards,
Stan

That is a very interesting take, Stan. Adelaide can only offer 2025R3 and #64 this year. But it's still something more than just Tauru at #2.

I reckon I'm pretty aligned. Matt Whitlock feels like a poor mans Jack Whitlock - and the latter may not make it! Hotton's ACL scares me with other good players as safer alternatives. Gross and Moraes don't inspire me ether.
