What's the knock on Sam Marshall other than being tied to Brisbane?
Top ager? Ceiling? Nothing exceptional?

Here's McGowan's summary, toothless.

Sandringham Dragons/Allies/Brisbane Lions Academy
Midfielder, 185cm, 19/1/2006
Talent League stats (avg): 23.1 disposals, 5.9 contested possessions, 6.5 score involvements
The Age’s August top 30: 28 October top 30: 21
Agility test: N/A 20m sprint: N/A 2km time trial: N/A

The Lions’ academy prospect attended Melbourne Grammar on scholarship and played for the Dragons in the Talent League, while still representing the Allies at national level. He is a running machine who runs 2km in under six minutes and is still going strong deep in games when others are slowing down. Marshall’s prolific end to the season, including winning the best-in-ground medal in Sandringham’s latest flag triumph, increased the likelihood of an early bid. Whether he will be more than just an accumulator at AFL level remains to be seen.

Low CP% there which may explain he may be an outside player at AFL level in that case, thanks for clearing it up. Being BOG in the grannie should count for something though, if it was anyone else I'm pretty sure PRE would be infatuated.

Ashcroft is a year younger, got 29, 6Cl and 3Gl in that GF and went for shoulder surgery not long after, toothy. But he doesn't get much of a rap on PRE. If RFC can't get em they get the cold shoulder. Fair enough.

That Marshall bloke musta had one hell of a game to get BOG ahead of Ashcroft. Probably coz Ashcroft is simply expected to perform at this level every game he plays. Bloody pity we can't have him, from the little I read n hear of the kids I reckon he's easily the choice for pick 1.

I've made my peace with it with the Ashcroft thing as much as I ever will, TM. As a 16yo Levi Ablett jr had a huge carnival last year including against Harley Reid. He's not news.

December birthday. Infant. Surgery recently for the shoulder injury he was nursing for God knows how long. Played VFL with it. Got 35, a goal and 12 clearances. Dominated.

It looks like we may not bid at #1. Perhaps because we want to show faith in our lad. Mm. It seem the football industry is urging us to bid.

Our lad misses the 30k or whatever if we bid. And who knows, maybe our lad kicks the *smile* out of Ashcroft one day?

A bit to play out here yet. But I think we should bid.

I see Twomey is not expecting any draft swaps before draft day now so if they are going to happen it will have to be under pressure on the night. Could be a very long first round with the full five minutes being taken on a lot of occasions.

This is very interesting. I thought it would be super active.

Some club will weaken for Brisbane's 27, I reckon, TT. Bulldogs 35+48?

(Brisbane can't trade on the night. Ashcroft swallows all their picks.)

If only we had a draftee who had also shown similar numbers as a VFL player.

Are we waiting for North to blink?

Still 48 hours to go, and all prelim discussions have been had.
Plenty of time to finalise.

Not many get those numbers at 17yo, Scoop. With a deconstructed shoulder. FMD.

Lucky we've traded into this draft. We might be able to get a new core for the future.

Dogs dont deal.
It looks like an 8 pick upgrade, but 4 of those disappear with bids.
So shifting 31 into 27 and losing roughly 40 isnt a good deal imo

Still the same top 6 that most seem to predict as best though. Just different order.

In this draft if you wants mid there’s enough to take that already have.

Take Travaglia as a back flanker if you want him.
This is my view.
Take the mid who is dominant in his class, not a back flanker who has attributes to playing onball
