2024 Draft Thread

FOS saying today Lalor is one of his best mates. (Also pretty close with Jags, can confirm).

We gotta get a FOS 1-2 with one of them.

Also said he knows which clubs are genuinely interested, and which are not. Obviously wouldn't say who on either front.

Heh heh heh....but you've come a long way though Beebs. I was down in Berwick today. Didn't realise those hospitals were so big. They're massive. Becoming a city on its own.
That it has Drodfer.

Hence why I packed up and moved to Safety Beach 12 years ago for 4 years (new relationship) but that’s got wayyyy to crazy over summer for me now.

So bought a old fashion qtr acre block and house in Somerville and love how quite it is…still just one set of traffic lights 🚦

Go see the kids in Berwick as young adults now but it’s outgrown me with traffic that’s for sure.

I’m a very simple man with simple tastes….doesn’t take much to keep me happy (hear that Tigers !).

Ps…I think we need a separate beer thread.

Sorry to all for high jacking this one 🍺

No *smile* Sherlock is an excellent expression that sadly has fallen out of the modern lexicon...along with piffing yonnies and bulk ace

I commend you on your Australian English language expression
Bulk ace!
This post is tops as.

There's so many unknowns that sometimes the obvious choice is staring at you right in the face. I think we would look more stupid if Smith turns out to be a gun because he played right under our noses. And let's be honest here, his performances are virtually peerless from a draftee perspective. I cannot think of any other player who had the same impact as Jagga in the VFL. I think there's a lot of hypothesing surrounding O'Sullivan & Lalor but most of that is from a diminished sample size and contains quite a few assumptions related to fitness & injury risk. If we want to get this right then the best path forward is some level of conservatism, Francis Jackson has never been one to get carried away by the flavour of the month in any case. I'm pretty sure he understands the importance of making these top 5 picks count.
You know regardless who we pick and who we don't pick they will come after us.
Pick 56 might turn out to be the best kid no-one really knows.
I prefer Jagga then Fos.

I said “yonnie” to my wife the other day and she looked at me funny.

I was told yesterday by someone who has a connection with a recruiter at another club that we have an interest in Jasper Alger, or at least we have been talking to him.
Don't know much about him, small forward I think? Thoughts?
I am sure we have talked with lots of players so I am not sure it means much btw.

Does Beriwck ever not have traffic congestion? Rarely go there but when I do, it's bumper to bumper 24/7. Weird.

The recruiters would of had Lalor and Fos high on their list coming into this season,Lalors outside game improved a lot after last year's champs, and has added being a damaging option up forward this year, while being under done.
I get Jagga's performances have been impressive this year, but he is not as damaging as Lalor or Fos or even Langford for that matter.
I doubt FJ will over look Lalor like the Demons did with Dusty .

Has he ever taken a mark without the ball being way out in front of him though ? Unlike Tauru, can he take a mark with guys crashing into him from behind or when he has to stand under the ball for a while ? You're gonna get that in AFL football. A lot.

Speaking with some Coates people recently, word amongst clubs is they think he needs to toughen up a bit, and that's why he's slid some in rankings.

(Shouldn't we be discussing this type of stuff on the 2004 Draft thread ? Too many threads all over the place at the moment....)

(Yes, on this thread.)

He does seem to like it better if he can jump at it and I know there's a pot on how game he is, Redders. Tauru is going #6 (and a reach too IMO) but yeah, Tauru will jump at anything and can get his hands on it. He actually looks a freak. But is a different role.

Tauru can't get in the way. Sims will have to do that if he's to make it. Just be 200cm and get in the way. While the Taurus of this world jump all over everybody. Sims is structural if he makes it and Tauru, if he makes it as a tall forward gets freedom and space.

Which brings us back to the pot you mention. Is he game enough? Not yet for the structural stuff. But neither is Nick Larkey and he's pretty useful. A Sims could be a Larkey most of the time. But if he can be more a stand in the hole forward he surpasses Larkey. And that would make him a very valuable player.

On Tauru, he blends beautifully with an improved Sims. On Sims he is not active enough. Nowhere near enough. Is it lack of confidence/experience or lack of talent?

@Redford @Dyer'ere I see Kurt Tippet with Sims. And I'll say it, if his name was Thomas King and was the third brother, he'd be top 7.
If he becomes Kurt Tippett and can get on the park, Scoop, he will be a star of this draft. Maybe very near #1. FWIW I reckon Sims can get some air. He can outjump a Whitlock.

Sims may yet be a KPF ruck mix. Having watched some of his games live, he has a spring in ruck contests that is amazing. He's almost impossible to get over.

He's 200 but he doesn't seem that tall standing next to him, but regardless, that jump he has makes him 200 and much more.

He's imposing if he can get his preferred position on the ball, that is a jump at it. I don't pot him too much for liking that is the AFL has plenty of talls who never take front position. And he can jump. And catch. Nobody can do both at the same time.

My summary of Sims is just that he has characteristics that are very good and that may be enough to justify a punt on him. FWIW I would take him at #20 or even earlier if need be.
