2024 Draft Thread

WA media like Vic media here seriously the propaganda machine rolls on. Tigers asleep at the wheel
😂
you can't make this *smile* up! We are not holding up anything, we have provided our terms so it's up to those clubs to meet our demands, especially on Rioli and Bolton

Absolute moron's over there, which explains WA fans in general. For a start it's the Barrass deal which is holding up the Baker deal...

Brisvegas need about a gazillion points to get anywhere near what they need for both Ashcroft and Marshall. This years first plus next years first a minimum requirement to establish a starting point. No need whatsoever to trade Brisvegas this years for something next year. We can easily accommodate their needs if we don't have anything else in the trading pipeline.
Can't see them giving us their 1st this year and 1st next year unfortunately. But gee whizz, if they do, that'd be great. This is what is going around in the news atm:

Brisbane plans to trade pick 20 for four later Richmond picks to accumulate enough draft points to match bids for Ashcroft and Marshall

People on here have more knowledge on the kids then me,
Which kids are good at taking that reliving mark down the line and cross half back??

Whatever imbecile put that comment into the meedjia needs to learn some basic grade 3 arithmetic, without the calculator. Trading pick 20 for 4 later Richmond picks is gunna leave them short of getting Ashcroft without them torching their 2025 draft and will certainly leave them without a point for Marshall.
Brisvegas need to sell a player for points or both 2024 / 25 first rounders to get close to covering costs.

I didn't realise we were drafting for the next half-time GF sprint winner.

Writing off a draft year of mids because no one ran 3.0

Here are the Top Ten sprint lists since 2021, any gun mids there?

I don't know myself but similar seems to be mentioned everywhere in the last day or so.

Picks 32, 42, 43 and 45 alone make up 1704 points for the Tigers, with three of those selections potentially enough to move for Brisbane's first-round draft selection of Pick 20, valued at 912 points.

The Lions likely need to more than double their current points total of 1067 to place themselves in a strong position to match rival bids for father-son prospect Levi Ashcroft and Academy talent Sam Marshall.

Ashcroft's bid could come as early as Pick 1, which Richmond holds, while the uncertainty surrounding Marshall - who may be taken in the first round of the draft - will further frustrate Brisbane's draft plans.

The Lions are hoping they don't have to dip into their bag of 2025 draft picks, but an outcome where they secure both Ashcroft and Marshall in the top 20 picks and hold all of next year's selections is unlikely.

I watched a stack of Stingrays games this year and i wouldnt be upset if we called Langford at 1. We are super keen on him and our recruiters were at plenty of his games.
He aint quick but runs all day, how quick he is at the start is how quick he's running in the last minute.
Pure footballer and a very smart one too, which at Coates level at least made up for his lack of a burst.

With our first 2 picks i want no risk footballers, Smith at 1 and hope Langford is still there at 6.
Probably both closer to there ceiling than some other names but i think with where we are at we just cant take any risks.
Who we take at 1 might come down to who we think the other teams around us will take and who will be there at 6.

Langfords partner in crime at Stingrays Cooper Hynes would be a nice pick late teens early 20's if we missed Langford.
Not as clean as Langford but more of an inside game, kicks goals too and finished the year off very well.
We won't have pick 6

So they give up 900 from pick 20 to get picks 32 - 42 - 43 - 45 to receive 1704 points. That still leaves them 696 points short of the 2400 they need to match Ashcroft at pick 1. Then on top of that they're gunna need another approx 700 points to match a bid at around pick 20 for Marshall. So they're gunna need to dip into their very first pick in the 2025 draft unless they get a lot more of a free handout or trade a player for points value.

2400 points if they have to match a bid at pick 1, that's more than double what they've currently got. That's nothing left for Marshall.

Been saying that for weeks.

Haaarrrgh. Trade a player or pray for early Santa.
Dunno why people keep regenerating this garbage about Brisvegas simply getting Ashcroft n Marshall by picking their noses. They've got a power of work to do to scrounge together the points unless someone else has a massive stupid attack.

Only thing is it won't be 2400 if they deal with Tigers because we won't bid. That would be the deal. It would then be up to other clubs. I doubt North would bid if they have Pick 2. If WC bid the cost is now 1800 or so. If Adelaide 1600. It suddenly becomes more manageable and worst case they'd need to drop their 1st round next year lower to pay for Ashcroft & Marshall. I guess the next question is what academy picks do they have lined up for next year.

The key is dealing with the Tigers to knock off that 600 points or so for not bidding for Ashcroft.

If we don't bid Ashcroft at pick 1 then Touche n the club have no *smile* idea n should pack up their kit bags. Ashcroft has easily matched the performance levels of Jagga Smith all year this year and is virtually a year younger and Smith has dedicated his entire year to improving his footy. Kids old man was a champion n his big Bro just won the Normie coming off a knee reco. The footy talent runs mega deep, Levi's simply a rolled gold 200 plus game talent who will waltz into senior footy year 1.

Guess that every club in the comp could simply not bid on Ashcroft n let him go through to Brisvegas at pick 20, would solve all the problems. If they want us to not bid on the best kid in the comp at pick 1 plus give them the points they desperately need for Ashcroft and Marshall. There needs to be massive sweeteners for us. It's not Kris Kringle time.

If trading Schulz out was worth pick 11 and 34 to Freo, then trading Bolton in is worth pick 10, 11 and their first pick next year.

There is no way the difference between Schulz and Bolton is the difference between pick 18 and 34.

I dunno about the 1st pick next year, but everything else is what I've been saying for months.

If Schulz is 11 and 34 then Bolton is 10 (12) and 11 (13). 12 and 13 for Bolton is the mark. Pay up aholes.

And also, all this stuff about comparing with Houston is rubbish as well, because apparently Port are after more than just pick 12 or 13. The media do not want to discuss this though because that would not help with their anti-Richmond run down on all our trade values.
