2024 Draft Thread

Tauru. Climbing but not enough talk about him, regardless.

Nate Caddy vibes (and not just for the blonde hair). Competes hard. Moves well. Big leap. Maybe the engine could need another cylinder but there's a lot of tools to play with.

And the price could be cheaper than others eg Armstrong.

Put that in ya pipe and smoke it Humphrey !

The Flying Viking!!! Yeah posted this about him before. Keen!!!

@caesar mentioned the Flying Viking Alix Tauru on the weekend.

Reckon this guy will come with a bullet in the media as we get closer to the draft.

Had a tough injury run - missed most of last year and then near half this year, but now getting a run at it and showing what he can do.

Gippsland have swung him forward lately with success. He's also a bit of an athletic freak, huge leap, competes well, very good second efforts, tackling etc.

Could end up anywhere at AFL level. Forward, back, wing etc.

At 193cm is an exciting prospect. Could be a real unicorn physically. Shame Gippsland got rolled on the weekend so no more Coates footy.

Would rather us draft The Viking than Armstrong TBH. Just suits modern football better.

Where will he go draft night? Reckon defo top 20, but suspect a few clubs might be enticed with him so could go as high as 12 or so.

Best thing if we draft him we can all wear Viking hats to the match. Much more intimidating than those soft Wizard hats.

Mentioned him weeks ago. Only just coming into conversation.

As Mrs Leysy says - always coming late!!

He only played a couple of Coates games coming back from injury before they shoe-horned him into the Champs.

If they were played now, he would have a far greater impact, thus profile.

Big range where he could go. Reckon someone will be in love and go top 10-12 ish.

Jagga gets the ball to Jack Ough.

Ok at least if we don't win another flag we can make people chuckle.

Yep do we want 8 top 30 or 4 top 15?
Dragging up an older convo...
Its not 8 v 4.

Currently we have 1 first, 2 seconds, 3 thirds, 3 fourths.
Assume we get 2 firsts Rioli, 2 firsts Bolton, 1 first Baker, 1 first Brisbane, 1 second Graham.

So before we trade up
1 top five, 2 in the next five, 4 in the teens, 3 in the 20s.
10 top 30 (5 top 15, 5 in the 16-30)

If we trade up we might get
3 top five, 1 in the next five, 2 in the teens, 2 in the 20s.
8 top 30 (4 top 15, 4 in the 16-30)

Its dropping 2 picks to shift 2 picks into the top cream.
Definitely worth doing

I don’t think the question about whether fos will be a full time mid and get 30 possessions is fair

Fos has a 1100 yo-yo so his endurance is in the 99th percentile , due to his injuries this year he has spent a lot of time on the bench and up forward

The question is will he ever get fully fit , if the answer is yes it’s a no brainer for me
Thats what Ive been thinking hes not fit for whatever reason. One year in the system will take care of that.

Thanks. Doubt they would downgrade pick 3 to pick 10 (13ish after bids & compos). They would want pick 6 (7) if we were to receive that for Rioli. Do we trade pick 6 (7) and Baker for 3?

No, they are not getting pick 6. We would be giving up too much. Pick 10 in an even draft and maybe a shuffling of later picks would be fair. We get a top 3 pick and they still get a top 10 pick along with Baker.

I hear this a lot about FS and academy picks pushing back the draft order but it doesn't affect clubs losing out on players, especially in the first round because If pick 10 goes out to 12/13 due to FS Ashcroft going to Lions, and Academy player Lombard going to GC you will still get your desired player if pick 10 is Bo Allen but you might get him at 12/13 because of FS/Academy picks

Just to answer your point as to why would they downgrade, overall they would get 3 players. They get Baker (pick 3), likely Bo Allen (pick 10) and another player from the Hawk's first first-rounder for Barrass.

Whereas if they keep pick 3 they pick the best available and pick 12 comes to us for Baker.

Dom Pyke says we won't give up pick 3 "on its own" in a direct trade for Baker. This tells me they are open to trading it and want something coming back which most of us thought this is how it would go down.

No doubt Matthew Clarke and Toce have already started the wheels in motion on the likely deal.

If WC get 10 they could draft Allan.
They get the best local mid and Baker.
Thats perfect for them.

So I'd think its 3 for 10 and baker
But thinking this further, why trade baker and 10 for 3?
Wouldn't baker for 13 (off hawks) be better?

Effectively its FOS on his lonesome or Allan and Hotton together.
Think thats better for us

Anyone seen much of Dom Brew the Liston Medal winner? At 27 he's had a breakout year averaging 28.8 disposals, 17.6 contested possessions, 9.9 clearances, 9.4 tackles and 5.5 inside 50m. Also captained the VFL rep side against SANFL. His story is of persistence and hard work. Would be good for a rookie spot if he doesn't go earlier.
