2024 Draft Thread

They would of won by 5 goals had Lalor played.
Rebels have a average back line, and a b-c grade midfield ,,so it was a good win considering Chargers have 2 highly rated mids ,,getting possessions is one thing, what damage you do with them is another.
Maybe true. But Oakleigh would have won by 5 goals if they'd kicked straight. And 10 goals if they had Faull.

For the record, FOS has a 1000 yo-yo, Jagga 840 I have not seen anyone in the draft pool with a better than 1000 yoyo , but happy to be corrected if untrue
It's actually 1100.

The Tiges MUST call out Levi Ashcroft with their first pick. By far the best player in the draft.

If Viva FOS Vegas is 1100 then let's start seeing it.

Right now, the difference between Jagpipes and FOS is that whilst FOS is the more talented, Jags is the more professional.

Jags runs and runs. He forces himself into the game whereas FOS is a high plains drifter waiting for the game to come to him a bit. He's playing like a highly talented kid from Koroit whereas Jags is pushing to all corners of the ground and all situations as much as he can. He's no Nick Daicos but he's trying to will himself into the game with his work rate like Daicos.

Jags gets a bunch of easier possessions as a result of using his legs more than FOS. FOS spends a lot of time drifting through the centre corridor. When it does come to him - he's great. He's a great mark for his size, nice kick, and he can actually run. But he's not running hard and quick enough and to as many spots that Jags does when he doesn't have the ball. Jags is around the back, handball receive, give off. He's in the backline, on the wing, through the centre, up forward. He just pushes himself into the game.

If FOS Vegas applies the same repeat high energy running, he'll be the better player in the AFL. But right now he's playing as a talented kid that needs to push himself a bit harder, quicker and more often.

Jags is an F2 running on 98 octane right now. FOS is an F1 running on 91.

Pick it up a bit FOS.

Outstanding summary. Top talent FOS has him, that last mark was Jonathon Brown like but he had nothing in the tank to finish the kick.Jags had a better chance of kicking it at that stage of the game BUT was never ever going to take that mark. Not today and not in the 268 games he plays at the next level.

It is possibly past injury related but if not and he isn't playing with total commitment at this stage of his career, then that is unlikely to change when he leaves underage footy.
Thinking Ashcroft or Smith at 1 then Lalor.

That's it in a nutshell Fossilford.

Who'd you plagiarise that from?

He's had a terrific game. Not sure why people are so critical. Just because his kicks are 30m instead of 50m, despite that they hit the target and allow ball retention. He's had numerous good kicks inside 50. He's easily been BOG today.
That Shorty bloke that a lot of people whinge about is fairly bloody good at the 50 metre bomb to nothing n no-one. Never gunna complain about a bloke who constantly hits up targets n puts them into space by hand or by foot, regardless of whether it's a 5 metre or 30 metre possession.
Get the pill n use it cleanly to put a team mate into time n space. That's 75% of the job done in one go.

Great work by Bungal @bengal tigers projecting Jonty all year, for him to stand up with the best key forward performance of the year.

The best key forward prospect now ILO. Don't think Armstrong goes top 20 and Faull will now you'd think.

Ignoring his blindspot for Mick Jagga, had a couple of nice predictions has the Bungle Beetle.

But isn't that what recruiting n developing is all about? Pick the most talented kid and then teach him how to become a fit hard working professional player who gets the most out of that abundance of talent.
Project up to what the player will be in 3 or 4 years when he's fully matured n ripened.

One other thing with Fosberg. Too many of his possessions are contested. He's making it too hard for himself.

More repeat energy in his running and calling for the ball in clear space, be it at stoppages or around the ground generally, will lift his possession rate up and his impact. He's a great kick so get to space to receive more often FOS, and use that boot more often.

I think it'll lessen the chance for injury as well. He's a courageous kid that doesn't mind the physicality, but right now he's getting into too many physical situations. He doesn't have a 190cm frame or a stocky body to keep doing that over and over so get on the bike a bit more, and even up the contested/uncontested ratio a bit.

Right now it looks a bit out of kilter.

I’ve seen Dustin Martin do the same on many occasions.
Jaeger is the best player on the ground. Again.
And still people are picking holes in his game.
He’s not perfect. But he’s definitely number 1.
Let’s focus on his positives because he’ll be in Yellow and Black next year
So we are getting pick 3 as well then?

I don't watch juniors much, if at all anymore. No time.
But does some of the drop off for Smillie at state level occur because they need to spread game time across more individuals. Also potentially not as much time on ball?
My biggest concern with guys like him and RCD is how much of their contested ball because they're bigger than others, and how much is talent?

Spot on for Vic Metro he is one of many talented mids rotating through, you have Smillie, Smith, Reid, Moraes, Ashcroft, Gross
Smillie is a big lad who likes to burst through packs and doesn't mind the don't argue. Perhaps could use his size more in contested situations but I don't believe he'll have any issues at AFL level.
