2024 Draft Thread

Next year is going to be very interesting with points only being allocated up to pick 40 (I think that's right ?)
Last I heard changed points for 2025 will be:
  • The new DVI will see points attached to only the first 54 picks (down from the current system of the first 73 picks). There will be more than 10,000 points shaved off the value of the next DVI.

unfortunately I don't believe there is a standout kpf, we're better served waiting later as there is a case to be made for many of them IMO

this story on Calshear Dear (pick 57) kicking as many goals as Jeremy Cameron and Jesse Hogan in the last month

is a well prosecuted, very cautionary tale on KPF's

Cal Twomey definitely wins the AFL mouthpieces most improved this year. maybe even the B&F?

IF they do want trainor with their first pick,

which I think is likely given hes Doug wades grandson and a tall back (he's only 193, but plays bigger) and clearly a top 10 talent, and North have gaping holes down back,

I think theyde be very open to a split.

Twomey has Trainor ranked 10th I think?

so if 1. north have him as their target and 2. they are confident he's there at 9,

they'de be mad not to split 2.

It'd have to be 2 (2517) for 9 and 10 (2864)

1,2,3 and 6 would be insane and not impossible.

unlikely? yes

for peeps into September draft pick fantasy porn as a coping mechanism for enduring Geelong in another Prelim,

here is a handy tool to calculate points swaps

Saints might take trainor. Esp with Battle out and if they get first round compo.
So anything after 6 is a risk.

Let them take him at 2

Yeah I reckon he's a top 5 talent,

along with the other 9 blokes

Its amazing the misconception that Jagga gets because of his lack of size.Remember Greg Williams? Was suppose to be to slow for top level football.Hurt factor?Well the kid gets in on ave 30 times per game. That means its out of the oppos hands for those 30.Anything can happen with those 30.Fancy handballing it or kicking it to a team mate sideways in a better position. But some call that stat building.
Anyway we'll get him one way or another.
i reckon some guys can get it 30 times and not be overly damaging, because half the disposals are 1,2s or 15mt chip kicks backwards that arent acheiving much. But i dont see that with (my limited viewing of) Smith. He often uses it short, but it looks generally constructive, and neat.

I really cant see how he is not no1 pick. (or no 2 if we bid on Ashcroft- which i doubt.)

No way IMO, Saints midfield is bland they will go mids as will Melbourne, at least if we get 6 from GC we will get in before Saints pick 7 & potentially 8

Houston apparently still wants to come home to Vic, also apparently Carlton his preferred, Port will want a 1st round pick but Carlton don't want to part with pick 11 this draft.
Solution, approach Richmond to part with one of our 1st round picks this year for their 1st round next year.

**Apologies all, there is going to be one of these so called rumoured deals every day up until the tade bell  :)

Kristian Lawson was impressive for Knights on Sunday.
Don't know his history. Looks AFL ready physically.

I heard this, but what do we get from it? No way we should hold Cartoon's hand to cross the road.

the brown paper bags don't need another half back IMO, probably another top KPD and a pacey mid is what they need

Jagga was impressive live. Has long arms.
3 times I seen him raise his arms above the tackler and handball over the congestion.
He is an accumulator of possessions.
Think Prestia.
Won't win a game off his own boot but can get it to those that will.

Article says:

So the Blues will believe new fitness boss Rob Innes, poached from Sydney, might be their best recruit of 2025.

Premiership bound apparently  so would only be giving up pick 18 next year in a shallower draft. (so as you say NO DEAL)

Hasn't the AFL already stated that certain of the establishment picks that get handed to Taswegia must be utilised to trade in experienced players because the AFL want Taswegia to be reasonably competitive right from the start and not just easy meat for every club in the comp to beat up on.
I think we are in a good position with Tasmania, as Banks ,Seth Campbell will be targeted and in their 5th year by then.
A couple of good extra picks will be invaluable at that stage.

To be fair to FOS he had a brilliant year last year. If I recall he was the 3rd or 4th ranked player in the competition as an under-ager. Pretty amazing.

That's why there are such huge opinions of him. His injuries have been mainly impact (broken finger, broken thumb and a killer corkie in his VFL debut for us, as well as the hip flexor probably due to trying to increase his training) and he just hasn't been able to get fit and have a clean run at it.

Jagga has done everything possible and is obviously a super talented and dedicated player. He hasn't put a foot wrong, even taking advice on the chin to be more damaging with his disposals after some (probably unfair) criticisms that he was early Cotch-like just racking up numbers but not making and taking ground.

But there something about FOS. It's amazing really that even after Jagga's dominating year, FOS is still firmly in the equation as No1. That says a lot, not necessarily about Jagga, but about FOS and the fact that many recruiters think he's clearly the best footballer in the draft.

For what it's worth here's my Top 5:

Ashcroft
FOS
Jagga
Draper
Lalor

In that order ? It's just my opinion which is all any of us have until night 1 of the draft.
Yes and in big games despite significant injury and limited game time he has lifted in last quarters.
Also his tank is already quite big and will.go off the charts with a couple of afl seasons

I reckon one way or another we'll end up with 1, 3, 6

and we should be able to craft Jaggy, Fos and Lalor.

trainor at 2, Draper at 4,

then Dees have the choice of Reid, Langford, Lalor, Smilie.

so even if dees do take Lalor, we get Reid or Langford.

which ever way you dice it, we will have a commanding draft.

dees have a long wait after 5 (38), they might do 5 (1900) for 10 and 21 (2300)?

1,3,5,6,9

jaggy, fos, lalor, reid, joeberry
I always cringe when I see pretty much everyone counting low picks we can get and then naming 3 young highly rated stars we get if it goes to plan.
I applaud your courage as it's a big no for me to count our chickens early.

Tasmania wont be just a side full of tasmanians?

they might have 10 natives on a 50 man list initially?

and i'd be worried for them if sam banks was in the top 10 tasmanians in the world?
