2024 Draft Thread

FMD. What the hell are ya on about Dell boy? They need to trade out their first this year and their first next year to equal the value of the points they get given this year that they'll need to bid for Ashcroft.
Either that or they can go begging for an extra 1000 points they'll need to go along with sacrificing their first picks value at the draft anyway on draft night. Or trade out a player for some pick value.
They dont need to trade.
If they dont trade they use up this years first and push next years into late second round.
And still get Ashcroft.

So any trade has to be better value than that

Some of the thoughts on us happily handing over a huge bunch of our so called un needed draft picks to Brisvegas for just their first pick in the draft which will be approx pick 15 to 20 and then not even bidding on Ashcroft are somewhere between ludicrous n *smile* crazy.

Wonder how many people would be in raptures of of happiness, just chubbin up over our trading prowess if..................

We trade Shai to the Frockers for pick 17 nothing else.

We trade Sausage to Mould Coast for pick 20 nothing else.

We trade Bakes to Wet Coke for pick for pick 23 nothing else.

Some people are suggesting we give Brisvegas the approx value of pick 4 in the draft for the return value of a pick in the range of 15 to 20 from Brisvegas just so they can get the best kid in the draft who is already being discounted to them under F/S rules.
There needs to be a massive return sweetener from Brisvegas for the deal to be even remotely acceptable. Their 1st this year and the 1st next year will be roughly equal value. Or perhaps even a player to go along with their 1st pick this year.
The points value system is heavily skewed in favour of late picks. It’s a win win for us to get rid of picks in the 30’s and 40’s for a pick in the teens. Taking advantage of this situation is literally the exact reason we stockpiled so many last year.

Don't forget Sam Marshall, td. Twomey had him #24 in his August mock draft. Brisbane will play ball.

Agreed.
And we will play ball.
But demanding their future first in a trade is counterproductive, its one key reason Bris are trading!

Technically they don't "need" to trade but they will lose pretty much all of the next 2 draft hands, if they want Ashcroft and Marshall and decide not to trade. They will most certainly trade and they will get a premium paid for the higher picks. Thats not even in contention. Not sure why TM is making such a big deal out of this.

Anyway enough banging on about the lions pick.

Can we get Lalor with 6?
In my eyes the Dees will be keen. Should we trade?

Would love to add Lalor to the team. Picture a fit him running around with Jagga and FOS/ Draper.

Delicious!

I reckon one way or another we'll end up with 1, 3, 6

and we should be able to craft Jaggy, Fos and Lalor.

trainor at 2, Draper at 4,

then Dees have the choice of Reid, Langford, Lalor, Smilie.

so even if dees do take Lalor, we get Reid or Langford.

which ever way you dice it, we will have a commanding draft.

dees have a long wait after 5 (38), they might do 5 (1900) for 10 and 21 (2300)?

1,3,5,6,9

jaggy, fos, lalor, reid, joeberry

Swap 5 and 38 for 9 and 24
Dees can take 2 tall forwards or a mid and a tall

We might miss on Berry. We will all need to get around eZ. Sad days indeed.

But small forwards are the last piece of the puzzle. And can plug in first year.
And we have Moju Mayhem Mansell and Juddy.

Instead with 1 3 5 6 we get a starting midfield.

I get the need to rebuild the midfield. But surely we need to grab the best tall forward as well. Even if that means sacrificing one of the elite mids others are calling for. Even if we use an earlier pick than we rate them at. Talls take longer and have a higher risk of failure. We need one developing now. They are the hardest player to find. I think one of the our first three picks needs to be on whoever we rate as the best TF in the draft

Another viewpoint is that there are multiple tall forwards. All have question marks and might be rated reasonably equivalent.
So we could get a top tall with a teen / 20s pick.

That might be the thinking

hes way more than a small forward.

Giant corner piece of the puzzle.

quick forward who rolls through the middle and is gonna kick 50 goals every year

Id take him at 2.

If we were to have a hand like 1,3,5,6,9....
Do you think Roos would be at all interested in halving 2?

dees lose 100 points on that.

you only trade down if you get a premium.
Clubs trade down if they a. Get the players they want b. Can sell the story to their fans.

Dees keep a top 10 AND shift up into the top 25

But I see your point. Who knows what happens

IF they do want trainor with their first pick,

which I think is likely given hes Doug wades grandson and a tall back (he's only 193, but plays bigger) and clearly a top 10 talent, and North have gaping holes down back,

I think theyde be very open to a split.

Twomey has Trainor ranked 10th I think?

so if 1. north have him as their target and 2. they are confident he's there at 9,

they'de be mad not to split 2.

It'd have to be 2 (2517) for 9 and 10 (2864)

1,2,3 and 6 would be insane and not impossible.

unlikely? yes

for peeps into September draft pick fantasy porn as a coping mechanism for enduring Geelong in another Prelim,

here is a handy tool to calculate points swaps

unfortunately I don't believe there is a standout kpf, we're better served waiting later as there is a case to be made for many of them IMO
