2024 Draft Thread

I always cringe when I see pretty much everyone counting low picks we can get and then naming 3 young highly rated stars we get if it goes to plan.
I applaud your courage as it's a big no for me to count our chickens early.

fair,

like I said, its a coping strategy to stop reading and thinking about Geelong in another prelim,

might end up in September draft porn fantasy anonymous,

which is a better option than looking at the stupid look on Patrick dangerfield's face

im not saying this is what I think,

but people who have watched him over the years,

whats the chances that FOS's consistently average top age draft year is due to something sinister like;

1. his peer group improving while he stagnated, or
2. something above his shoulders

without an impeccable explanation for the drop off in his influence on games,

and a iron clad guarentee he recaptures his best,

theres kind of no way you'de risk pick 1

is there?

No way IMO, Saints midfield is bland they will go mids as will Melbourne, at least if we get 6 from GC we will get in before Saints pick 7 & potentially 8
They need Draper and Jagga. Pace and style.

I reckon one way or another we'll end up with 1, 3, 6

and we should be able to craft Jaggy, Fos and Lalor.

trainor at 2, Draper at 4,

then Dees have the choice of Reid, Langford, Lalor, Smilie.

so even if dees do take Lalor, we get Reid or Langford.

which ever way you dice it, we will have a commanding draft.

dees have a long wait after 5 (38), they might do 5 (1900) for 10 and 21 (2300)?

1,3,5,6,9

jaggy, fos, lalor, reid, joeberry
Dont discount us from taking Langford at 6.

Actually if we had the first 3 picks in the draft I think we would go Jagga, FOS, Langford.

100% was the best footballer on the park on Sunday. Was not best player on the day.
Laconic footballer. Has gears and can use them to change a match.

The Greats have it. Luke Hodge, Andrew Macleod, Dusty, Hird etc.

Houston apparently still wants to come home to Vic, also apparently Carlton his preferred, Port will want a 1st round pick but Carlton don't want to part with pick 11 this draft.
Solution, approach Richmond to part with one of our 1st round picks this year for their 1st round next year.

**Apologies all, there is going to be one of these so called rumoured deals every day up until the tade bell  :)

How will Cartoon fit Houston under their salary cap?

unfortunately I don't believe there is a standout kpf, we're better served waiting later as there is a case to be made for many of them IMO
Harry Armstrong has shown he's a big game player. If his mob make it to the Coates gf just watch him go. He already rocketed up draft boards with his game in the Champs final taking huge contested marks and kicking 5.0. Kicked another 4 in a final last weekend. He's the one imo.

yeah I see the class.

but the elephant in the room is hes averaged about 14 disposals across all games and levels in 2024.

admittedly, thats only about been half a dozen games.

It would be an enormously bold punt at pick 1, given the CV's among his cohort.

I honestly think, if you take the emotion out of it, the vibe that everyone gets,

and stuck to the empirical body of evidence over the last 3 years, factoring in risk and making a few assumptions,

he's behind Ashcroft, Lombard, Jagga, Draper and probably Langford

so maybe actual pick 5-6?

There seems to be a consensus building around wanting Jagga and FOS, then trying for one other from Lalor, Langford, Reid, Draper, Berry, Allan.

That would be quite something. The sound of media bloviators' heads exploding would be like the popping of champagne corks.

i reckon some guys can get it 30 times and not be overly damaging, because half the disposals are 1,2s or 15mt chip kicks backwards that arent acheiving much. But i dont see that with (my limited viewing of) Smith. He often uses it short, but it looks generally constructive, and neat.

I really cant see how he is not no1 pick. (or no 2 if we bid on Ashcroft- which i doubt.)
He had one game in the Champs where he had 30 p but only 54m gained which I reckon fed into the narrative that he wasn't damaging with his possessions. I believe someone had a word in his ear (or he got that feedback) and he took that on the chin and set to work to be more of a go forward player and it seems to have worked. That's the kind of kid he is, a worker and always wanting to improve. There's lots to love about Jagga Smith.

Can't deny Jagga season performs every week. FOS has been injured I get it , but can he get the numbers Jagga can get. Long term who has more upside.

I think he is still a real chance to go 1 and your boy Jagga will drop to 3.

Just not Simms. Vanilla forward.

Only saw Simms ruck on the weekend before getting injured early in the 3rd, I have not seen him play forward.

Didn't take a mark so he made no impression on me at all.

Was surprised to read pre-season his Agility results:

10. Thomas Sims (Northern Knights) 7.909sec

The Great were both the best footballer and best player on the day more often than not.

The Gears run from always great to God tier.

Putting FOS in that category now is premature, he may get there in 5 years but he isn't now.

I am not saying he is there now.
I am saying what I see. The traits. The on field presence.
Why is he even playing injured? Because he wants to win. It's a final. You can't teach that.
