2024 Draft Thread

They will get Shai done and I don't think the negotiations will be too difficult.

Reckon 9 and 17 will probably be the cornerstone, and we will get a player included. Maybe Ollie Murphy or Cooper Simpson if we rated them as a steak knives pick. I assume Freo would prefer to keep them, but I don't think they will get in the way of it if it guarantees them Bolton. I would guess anyone not in their best 22 in 2025 they will be open to trading.

Potentially if they need a 1st rounder for this year, maybe the GC pick 20 comes to us as part of the Rioli trade, and maybe we get both those young boys, and we add in 20 and get back their 2nd rounder (Saints one) which is currently 27.

They would then look to do the same with the Dees, something like 10, F1 and see what players would go with them.

Rioli is the one we will really dig our heels in I suspect. The deal above is reasonable for Shai even though Tiges fans probably think its overs, Freo fans probably think its unders, but that usually means neither team has screwed the other. I don't think that will be the case with Dan for a couple of reasons.

1 - If Dan doesn't get the trade, I'm certain he would rock up to training and put in 100% in training and matches as he would if the trade hadn't been requested
2 - Dan hasn't been asked to be traded for family reasons. When there is a human element part of the trade we will likely try and help players get to their destination, this is as much about messaging to players that might want to come to the RFC as to what we stand for. None of that exists for Dan, he's either asking to go for either more money, or more chance at success. Thats fine, but the GC shouldn't be expecting anything easy with these negotiations then.
I would rather have pick 3 and the Hawks pick ,than what the dockers would give ,pick 9-17 doesn't impress me much for our million dollar man .

A key consideration for both WA teams is they prioritise quality WA kids in the draft. They are paranoid about drafting Victorian kids and seeing them leave. See Judd and Harvey Reid.

Importantly if they think they can get a player lower than their trade position, they will consider trading the pick.

And further to mrposhman comments above, any fringe Victorian on their lists will be gettable if it facilitates a West Australian coming home.

How do Gold Coast continue to have a plethora of draft picks and points?, at least it should benefit Richmond this year.

Gold Coast6, 13, 20, 26, 34, 46, 70, 805516

Richmond1, 21, 29, 39, 41, 47, 57, 66, 73, 755976
Clubs constantly poaching their players for picks. They constantly seem to do plenty of horse trading around with their picks n players so always seem to have a fat draft hand.

Gold Coast turned pick 4 last year into over 4,000 points in value

I added a question in my original post but will ask it separately here, do Syd's pick 19 and GC's pick 20, (received from Nth's compensation package), get used on the first night in round 1 or become 1st picks on Day 2?
If the latter, after sleeping on their decisions overnight, clubs would be ringing Sydney instead of us :( to deal.

Pretty sure they are treated as 1st round picks (end of 1st round compo) so will be Night 1 picks that are taken.

Freo could land both. That would transform their forward line. They have four first rounders over the next two years before they start talking players.

Would be more of a salary cap issue than assets to get the deal done.
Could also open the door for Darcy to move to Geelong.

Yeah l think your man Jagga should have a big day ,with all his short dinky possessions ,he will be in his element

yes, he has demonstrated he thrives in extreme conditions

it takes a special footballer to thrive on the northern oval.

Bonts goal from 50m, INTO a 35 knot goal last week was astonishing.

I’m all for Shai staying if the dockers don’t overpay. He’ll be handy during our rebuild and could easily play until early mid 30s.

Also does the compensation picks Syd & GC rec'd from Nth for this year are they deemed 1st round picks or 2nd round? If 2nd round even though it is still the order it means Richmond won't have 1st pick on day two so clubs would be ringing Syd and GC before us?

And I will be able to get Shai's signature on his actual training guernsey that I secured in a raffle the other night ;)

So he's not Royce hart yet then (naming himself at CHF in his book) and declaring himself at 1? Is confidence and issue? (Sarcasm)

You know that’s a myth? Royce has been asked about it a few times and I have heard him answer it.
He was asked to name a team of players he would most like to play with so he was automatically put in it by the ghost writer and editor of his book.
He specifically spoke about it when he was interviewed by Mike Sheahan on Open Mike as an example.
