2024 Draft Thread

I dont disagree entirely,

but 'Chance' is the operative word.

Ive maintained, Jagga may not turn out the best player in the pool,

but IMO he is the most likely to play 250 very good games.

If we take him at 1, I think the worst that can happen is we have a crucial clearance winner and a creative playmaker through two premiership cycles

ditto draper and ashcroft.

thats why I think they are the Top 3.

Fair comment. I've enjoyed watching Jagga and reckon you are right, he's a nailed n certainty to play 200 games, but if we can get another top 4 pick, I'd love to come away with Draper and FOS. If we can then pick up Lalor with another in the top 10 (assuming both Shai and Dan leave) then we'd have a nice rounded compliment of 3 mids to move forward with.

Though if we get Jagga, I certainly wouldn't be disappointed.

Yep, Jagga is the surer bet.

You will definitely have a clearance, in and under specialist.

To me though, he has the same strengths (though to a different degree) as Hopper/Taranto, and the same weaknesses, or, more fairly at his age, question marks.

I just saw something in FOS that I've only seen in players like Dangerfield/Bontempelli/Fyfe. Just a 'Let me hit this contest, and I'll break both you, and this game.'

If he's short on fitness, game time, and continuity, then that would fit with his deficiencies, which would also make them improveable.

But, yeah, a bigger chance of a bust.

Similar to the Tom Scully vs Dusty year....

yeah Ive seen it with FOS too

and bottom age AA provides a pretty decent floor.

It will be an incredibly tough decision.

Lalor won't go after pick 3,barring a big injury, and if he plays well in the remaining games of coates ,will probably go at one .
To be honest l can only see Lalor ,Draper or Fos going at one ,the other's lack that extra bit of quality ,Reid and Langford are very good ,and can be damaging up forward,Smith is good but not damaging .
If we had later first round picks l would like to see Cooper Hynes or Allen in the mix ,or taller options like Faull or even the ruck Dodson

I love your love for sam lalor. I think he will be a great player.

but I'd give you 10-1 he goes at No.1.

I agree Smith is the most likely 250 game player but Andy McGrath will play 250 games too.

Some clubs and people rate him really highly ,l think his best is very good, but he is inconsistent ,and not worth the dollars the Tiges are paying him .
I see West Coast at a very similar stage of their rebuild with us.Bolton would be a waste of $'s and picks. But hey if they come knocking i'd be listening.

Wouldn't be the first club to do something like that ,and Shai doesn't really get to decide ,as long as he's back with his support network .
I would be surprised to see Dan Rioli going ,he's not playing like a player who wants out .

Rioli gave Balta one of the biggest bakes I've heard in a long time yesterday. Balta ignored him on a short pass out of defence and in usual Balta fashion just boomed it long to a 2-1 contest instead and the ball came flying back in.

Rioli went off tap at him, waving and pointing at spots on the ground for what seemed to be a clear breach of team rules.

Why is FOS so underdone when he only had a Finnger injury? Has he always had aerobic limitations?
You can run for miles and miles on roads and in parks. Then work your ass off in the gym.
And then blow up in your first few games.
Match conditioning is completely different and can only be replicated on field.

I was at the game as well.

My view was that fos looked a class above as a footballer , moved around like James Hird, has very very good evasive ability , excellent game sense and decision making , taller than I thought and showed very nice speed when he needed to, and not afraid to break up the game take players on and back his skill

Agree with red as far as his fitness, it looked below standard , but I did hear he has an ankle injury that has affected his preparation.

I know he had 11 possessions but they where class.

Jagga was great as an in and under footballer , no problem in him finding the footy he like a magnet to the ball . Seemed to go forwards a bit more than the last 2 weeks, he reminds me a bit of Craig lambert in his playing style , probably a better kick , but hard to tell as he very rarely tries to hit a difficult target.

As far as pick one goes I would be shocked if anyone would take Jagga ahead of fos on the game yesterday .

The only reason would be if you thought that fos would never get fit due to an inherent health default or a poor work ethic .

Definitely. At the very least we make Brisbane pay a fair market rate for Ashcroft. Worst case, we end up with him and I’d be okay with that.

Brisbane may well look to trade their first round pick to Richmond for our later picks for points on the agreement that we don't bid on Ashcroft at 1.

Richmond bid at pick 1 and Brisbane would need 2,400 points and Brisbane are 1,000 points short even with their current 1st round pick. Would lose their 2025 first as well.

Brisbane cannot afford for Richmond to bid at pick 1. Surely better to do a deal with Richmond and puts us in the box seat for Brisbane's current pick 14.

He's quite a few matches in now. Two champs, 3 APS and now one VFL. Did he show aerobic limitations prior to his finger injury?

(Jack Ross has just had 3 months off with a foot injury but ran strongly yesterday.)

Are clubs allowed to do this or are there anti-collision rules in place?

Good, because Balta has been going off at player's for weeks now,and doesn't back it up.
I wonder what we would get for Balta on the trade table ,if we pick up a KP defender in the draft ,we might find out next year.
