2024 Draft Thread

As others have said he's a lock for WC. If he has a strong end to the year, then it gives more emphasis on WC trading 2 2nds to us for Bakes, which we can trade to the Suns for 1 of their 1sts if they don't go for Rioli.

Im very very confused.

Did i dream that laura keane said no draft rule changes this year?

Meaning Champion is on the market until pick 40?

No changes to the draft bidding system this year, but they have relaxed the NGA bidding rules from this draft, as in you can bid on them anywhere from Pick 1. Both items were ratified by the Commission this week.

Sorry mate. That’s not correct. They can match anywhere a pick is lodged on their NGA player

What is the new rule?

The change announced this week has removed the top 40 requirement. It means clubs have the option to match a bid on their NGA player at any time, regardless of when on draft night the bid from the rival club comes.

So they changed after dogs got JUH in 2020,

And changed it back for 2024?

Jeez, what a *smile* circus,

They cant even communicate rule reversions clearly

I had to have a couple of looks at it as well. Change, change, change back for this year. Then maybe the 10% discount comes in 2025. Or 2024 .??

With Gold Coast struggling on the road and last few rounds they will be desperate for a Dan Rioli to add some premiership experience

Dimma should also bring the complete the deal approach from tiger land.

If they can give up their 2nd pick for Lachie Weller, surely 2 firsts isn't out of the question

There is every likelihood in 2 years from now we will have drafted 8 very high quality young players.
In 4 years we will have 10.
Almost half the side...skilled,young,fit and hungry exciting young Tigers.
We will be competing again around this time I believe....it will take an active and aggressive trade and draft THIS year.
Do nothing will get nothing.
I am sure Blair has planned for this . Coming last is a necessary cost. Means nothing to me....future success means everything.
Next year is of no consequence...we will be last or close to it. 2028 and thereafter.

Simms is big, presents hard, great hands and busts packs. Kicked badly in final game but could have kicked 3 or 4.
Shanahan is tall, mobile and is skilled.
Neither will be duds. Both clearly better than Schache types...they dont just rely on size. Would love them both. Shanahan looks to have Jack R skills.
We can see from Norths slow progress that mids only get you so far..must have all the pieces...ie Draper Lalor Berry...we have backs.
And Shanahan kicked 4 goals in the VFL today. A good prospect. I would prefer J Whitlock over Simms though. Whitlock appears to have a much bigger tank, and is a really good athlete for a big boy. Can ruck as well.

I see traits of Tom Lynch, Harry McKay and Riley Thilthorpe. Give me athletic big men. I'm in.
IMO our most important positional need moving forward is a gun key power forward and if Sims is as good as those three, especially Lynch, we take him at number 1. There is no standout midfielder this year, as in previous years, but they run deep in depth as everyone is saying. You build great sides around one or two gun forwards so we go Sims if he is that good, can’t risk other sides picking him up later. We have Balta and Gibcus as our key backs and both could also be swung forward at times if needed. Then with our other picks in the draft just load up on midfielders and small forwards because from what everyone is saying there are plenty of them this year with similar talent. We have enough back flankers and wingers as it is. Any other holes in our list can be filled via recruiting from other clubs or rookie draft. Go the gun athletic power key forward as our first pick I say.

Best player first, especially with pick 1. From the little I've read n heard the best of the key forwards look to be rated toward the end of the first round of the draft. Depending on how many first round picks we manage to gather for this year, a couple of premium mids and then a premium key forward. If ya can't get the ball and deliver it to advantage properly it's pretty pointless having a fancy big forward rummaging around his ankles all game trying not to fall over.

I agree in that scenario. I am saying that if he will be as good as Lynch, as some have inferred, he should be our first pick. He is obviously then not as good if he goes late first round. He will be no Richo or Buddy or Lynch. More Logan McDonald and there is no way I would squander our first pick on a player like that.

We’ve got that many picks, I’d be inclined to bring in key two forwards. A monster and a more mobile type.
Lynch and Jack went alright together. Simms and Faul has a nice feel about it.

Moraes kicked five and was best on for Eastern today. If only his kicking was a bit better. He is probably the best gut runner in the draft.
