2023 mid-season rookie draft

Would not be a surprise at all Checkers especially if he's got the same condition that killed off Lambos career.

Might open up 2 spots one for a tall and maybe one for a speedy small.

Good stuff!
We already have a speedy small who would create absolute havoc in his current form. Just look up the other end of the ground.

Seth Campbell looks a very likely type albeit off a small sample size. Gotta get that nagging adductor injury under control and play some VFL footy! Listed as a “test” for this week

Where is Rioli ranked? Surely above average? If that's the issue put Short back or get him on a wing. But drafting a 26 year old delisted flanker would be a catastrophic black mark against the list build.

Re: Rioli - Not sure, but not above average.

Anyway, it's the back 6 with ball in hand that are all at sea. Turnover city. Equal most goals conceded from turnover bringing it out. Our eyes know this as well. We need to change things up.

Hence throwing up a suggestion for discussion.

As for one mid-season draft pick being a catastrophic black mark - C'mon Scooper.

At the rate we’re going, we might have pick 1 in the MSD :ROFLMAO:. Or are we tanking for it :unsure:? Anyway, in all seriousness, here’s an interesting prospect. I hope we have steered away from Narkle and look at a tall forward, especially now that Bauer is playing down back!

Vlastuin, Balta and Grimes would be responsible for a lot of those I would imagine. Not sure how those guys are replaced though. Maybe they just need to concentrate.
And we need to look at how our half forwards are presenting to give them options. Off topic but.

Would McD get a game if his was on our list- not unless we move Rioli or Baker, which we shouldnt. So I guess i agree with Spook.

I think that missing broad and short has created a vacuum in experience as we exit D50 meaning we oft choose wrong option and arent setting up like we should , their return will help steady the ship

It's funny, on here Rioli is lauded for his kicking and Baker is considered the scruffier of the two. Might be time to get Short back there to his original role. We've used two top 30 picks on back flankers in 2021 draft and now we are talking about pick up a 26 year old VFL flanker whose been delisted. Surely note.

Would put Banks and Brown in a really bad light and show the club doesn't think they are going to make it over the next two years. Using two picks in the top 30 in the same draft and then getting a 26 year old would be a huge black mark. Hence I'm hoping we don't do it.

We've also got Steely Green recruited as a HBF. I agree going to McDonough is probably a backwards step and there are other higher priority positions we should be looking to fill.

I doubt we’ll get mcdonagh. He was under our noses and had been for a little while when Essendon took him. He’s like our VFL captain Lachie Street- great VFL players who are probably just that

Short has to go back to defence. Its a no brainer.

How we miss Houli!

Short to defence and Ralphsmith to the fwd line.
Add penetrating kick to the backline and pace and run to our fwd line

I just said Bauer is now playing down back and this kid is playing forward …
Bauer played forward all last year n started there this year before they've looked at him in defence, perhaps purely in the hope he shows enough somewhere somehow to be worthy of an elevation to a senior game. Reckon we might have more urgent list needs than to be trying to find another similar sized young third forward.

Brandon Ryan from the Bullants getting a bit of interest. Saw him when we played against the Bullants, looks like a footballer. Tall (200cm) with a nice easy left foot. Took a couple of nice marks. 25 years old, been kicking around the VFL with Essendon and Geelong as well as suburban teams for a while.

Yeah, I checked out his profile after that game, he looked ok, 25, I wonder what the knock is.

Archie May (six disposals, four marks, one goal)

"Whilst his numbers aren't huge, for a young player to come in and debut and have such an impact on the game, I thought was really pleasing. He could have easily finished with three or four goals had it not been for a couple of missed opportunities. He'll be better for the experience."

Just something about this kid that I like. Remember the first practice game v Norf and he came on and we were all asking who this bloke was. Sounds like he stood out equally in his first VFL game.

If he can kick the 3 or 4 goals that Morris is referring to in the upcoming games, I would take him.

Mutaz is putting his best foot forward! Wouldn’t mind him. A tall at either end would be okay for mine
