2023 mid-season rookie draft

With the mid season draft locked in for 31/05, Robbie Tarrant will have a good handle on where he's at. With the draft happening after round 11 the club too will know where they're at season wise. If Robbie chooses to retire, we will have 2 spots we can fill.

Turn our form around, before the draft, it will be interesting to see what the strategy is. An immediate fix, or pick for the future.

I know they've changed the rules re retirements, so can't we just put both George and Tarrant on the ineligible list / long term injury list, whatever its called and get those 2 picks? I'm not really sure what this change in process around submitting a form will actually do, we just make them ineligible for games and pick someone new.

Not exactly sure but I'm thinking that form we have to submit is a release form, meaning that they're no longer our player and anyone sniffing around can pick them up.
Shifting players to ineligible or long term injury was simply just a fudge so clubs could retain the player while still having a nibble at the mid season draft.

New rule you have to release them from your list, would mean that someone could snaffle George mid season instead of waiting until the end of the year.

I wonder if we are still keeping a close eye on Narkle?
I hope not! If anything, we are ok for midfield depth and Narkle isn’t setting the world on fire at Essendon. If Ross and Dow can’t get a game currently, Narkle wouldn’t either

There is a guy in the local league in Geelong that had 81 tap outs for the game.Just what we need.

Brandon Ryan from the Bullants getting a bit of interest. Saw him when we played against the Bullants, looks like a footballer. Tall (200cm) with a nice easy left foot. Took a couple of nice marks. 25 years old, been kicking around the VFL with Essendon and Geelong as well as suburban teams for a while.
Wouldn’t be the worst thing having a mature key forward join the club!

Luke Teal didn't do his chances any harm in just his 2nd VFL game yesterday, he looks a nice type.

"Teal is a good size for a modern footballer, standing at around 190cm and playing mostly as a defender has played on a range of types but mostly small forwards with his biggest task against Harry Sheezel in Round 16. That was a good battle, with Teal finishing that game with 20 disposals and was a real weapon with his sharp kicking."

Love what Mutaz and Luke Teal are doing in our VFL team but this guy (as discussed previously on this thread) is very appealing!!

Think we need to have a look at a tall forward. And Tarrant still listed as “indefinite” on the injury list so if he retires and gives us another pick we’d have to look at a small forward surely

I think we need a tall and small forward but if there are 2 draftable potentially elite talls like ————- we should pull the trigger.
We may already have the small on the list

We currently dont know what plans the club has for Green , Smith , Campbell , Clarke and what positions they will play
