2023 mid-season rookie draft

Gresham is another little campaigner who has made a habit out of kicking goals and being at his best against the RFC.

Important draft for us with us not having high picks in the end of year draft .If we get another ruck think Soldo will leave .. We need a fast Mid very badly , yeah a quick cleaver small forward too and another tall forward would all help .If we get 2 picks will be great . Will depend on what Tarrant does .

For those wanting a small forward, Sam Lowson surely is worth considering as a mature aged option. He was touted to have been drafted in past mid season drafts & was overlooked due to injury during the last I believe as has the athletic attributes and runs on the board at the lower level. His form this year in the vfl looks good to me with 11 goals & 6 tackles in 4 games thus far. His profile seems to tick most boxes: "THE dreadlocked athletic forward from Coburg was a chance in the mid-season draft following 16 goals in seven games, including two bags of four in the opening four rounds. Unfortunately injury struck on the eve of the draft, Lowson missed his chance and in his four games upon return was not quite able to replicate his form. Has elite athleticism with a 2.93-second 20m sprint and 91cm running vertical leap, making him a really dynamic type with those much-heralded AFL traits. His best was evident in the first four VFL rounds this year, with Lowson's 13 goals showcasing his ability to provide a focal point and find bunches of goals. His goalkicking accuracy could improve slightly though, with his 18.14 this year not doing total justice to his dominance at times.

STRENGTHS: Defensive pressure, athleticism, acceleration, scoreboard impact
IMPROVEMENTS: Endurance, consistency"

Also if a mature aged Ruckman is a priority, then perhaps Sam Naismith who played at Sydney now at Port Melbourne & finally playing again...

Another back flanker. Who was delisted by Essendon. And is 26.

We are now doing reverse Dodo's.

Fair questions. But to counter he is a class above VFL level and didn't get much chance in a poor program at Essendon.

26 is fine age wise if good enough. Take the name out of it, get 5 years of footy from mod-season pick you've done well.

As is the role. We have the 2nd most turnovers coming out of defensive 50 in 2023. We simply can't move the ball from the backline with any class or quality. Only Baker ranked above average in the AFL so far. Everyone else below average. It's at a diabolical stage.

Despite us investing heavily in the draft for half backs, we do have an immediate need skill wise in this area.

Not sure if he is zippy enough for the AFL, but he is one touch, finds the footy and his golden slipper (especially) is at least worth throwing up as an option for a mid season pick as the best player in our feeder/reserves team. That's all Leysy's saying.

Tarrant is going to be under some serious scrutiny these next few weeks.

Night be time to tap him on the shoulder.

By the time he makes it on to the field if he does Tylar will probably be the best Key defender at the club.
I’m 100% not in the know at all, but I have heard Tarrant will be retiring in the next week or 2.
Apparently knows he will not be back playing.
No credible source though.

Would not be a surprise at all Checkers especially if he's got the same condition that killed off Lambos career.

Might open up 2 spots one for a tall and maybe one for a speedy small.

Good stuff!

He was on his last legs when he got to us, body just can’t hold up anymore. That’s okay if he knows when to pull the pin.

Just hope what I have heard is right and he does it when we could still pick another player if we wanted to, rather than doing it after the mid season draft.

Anyone know how test cricketer Matthew Elliott's son Will, he's 203cm's is going, was highly rated last year before having knee surgery, is he back playing?
Read somewhere a week or so ago that he'd had a decent game. Is he playing as an overage at Oakleigh????

No good, really tall but bog average.

Where is Rioli ranked? Surely above average? If that's the issue put Short back or get him on a wing. But drafting a 26 year old delisted flanker would be a catastrophic black mark against the list build.

At the rate we’re going, we might have pick 1 in the MSD :ROFLMAO:. Or are we tanking for it :unsure:? Anyway, in all seriousness, here’s an interesting prospect. I hope we have steered away from Narkle and look at a tall forward, especially now that Bauer is playing down back!

Is he related to Ivan?

Only a month away from the mid-season draft.

What type of player should we be looking at?

We've got Tom, Nank, Soldo, Gibcus and Tarrant all out injured.

If we go for a tall, there's a 21yo over in Wa, Jack Buller who we should be giving serious consideration. He's 199cm's, is a very good overhead mark, has taken 24 marks in the first 2 rounds, after taking 7 in the 2022 WAFL GF. I reckon we could do a lot worse.

Got your eyes on anyone?

What an absolute unit
