2023 mid-season rookie draft

ATM we have one pick in this draft but might end up being 2 to 3 picks , depending on long term injuries and retirements .
Thinking we need a fast midfielder , another tall forward ?

I have a suspicion we will have two list spots available going into the mid-season draft. I'd like to see us pick up the best pressure small forward available and a key position tall that will allow Balta to be freed up to play either the intercept role or a mobile tall role similar to the role played by Blicavs did for the Cats last season.

I am confident our midfield mix will look a lot cleaner and our spread look more consistent with two extractors (two of either Hooper, Taranto and Prestia) and two classy outside types (either Bolton, Dusty, Short and Sonsie) plus a dedicated pressure/shut down mid (either Graham or Pickett) at the majority of contests around the ground.

I don't think we are too far away from playing competitive football across four quarters barring our continued bad luck with fitness and availability. It's clear we need more pace inside F50 and polished ball movement into F50.

Anyone know how test cricketer Matthew Elliott's son Will, he's 203cm's is going, was highly rated last year before having knee surgery, is he back playing?

Mitch Szybkowski is another that most pundits thought was unlucky not to get drafted last year.

I wonder if we shore up the ruck division (at least for the rest of 2023) or do we hope Nank and Ivan maintain fitness when they return ( which will be around when the MSD is)

I don't know too much of small defenders but there are several names doing well in the VFL / SANFL / WAFL seasons that sprung up in last years draft discussions.

Kobe Ryan playing for Adelaide I think is tearing it up - Midfielder
Ethan Philips was rated highly last year - Key back
Mitch Szybowski as someone else posted above is a chance - Midfielder
Boyd Woodcock at Southpot could be an option, was previously at Port Adelaide - midfielder / small forward

I'm sure we'll be watching our boys closely too. Luke Teal debuted at the weekend, he'll get plenty of chances at VFL between now and the MSD. Lachlan Johnson has looked pretty good this year, maybe gets another chance at it (was drafted in 2019 by the Bombers but never played a game, may have been 1 of those early cuts due to Covid reduced squads) and Mutaz el Nour could be another option.

Boyd Woodcock is a good shout, posh. Talented. Plays for frees, which he won't get at Richmond, but killed it at Southport last year.

Szybowski I think is too one-paced.

@bullus_hit, any players from last years draft that were overlooked that you would be interested in?
The guys in my top 60 who didn't get drafted were Sam Gilbey, Mitch Szybkowski, Ethan Philips & Archie Lovelock. Of that group I think Gilbey & Szybkowski probably the best bets, the former had a wretched run with injury, the latter very stiff not get a shot. Now I believe Szybkowski trained with Essendon, I'd be sending in some moles to find out how that went. Gilbey is a former AIS player, his skill-set AFL quality. Do we need another back flank? Probably not so there's that to consider. Joshua Browne from the 2021 draft progressing ok, very blue collar but a worker, better than Ross? Dunno, probably similar types. Rucks? That maybe an area we could look at.
