Sheeds (Head) / Hird (Assistant)

If there was a scenario that could work it would be this one. Both had to work hard at their craft. Hird was a kid who came form nowhere in the draft, overlooked by many clubs including Essendon and worked damn hard to get the respect he has. Sheedy was tough and uncomprimising and never accepted second best. This was evident by the pasting he gave after the 83 grand final loss. With he and Hird togetehr we could change a culture. But....Sheedy has said he enjoys the speaking circuit, he has had his time. I would lobe to see it but it wont happen.

Sheedy would certainly upset some people with his directness but could he change the culture? COuld he return us to the way things should be rather than the way things are?

I hope the panel selects someone who is his own man! Could Hird be Richmond's Sheedy? COuld he instill and attitude of work and could he lead us out of the mire? Does he have the balls to lastt he distance? Buckley wont coz he will jump as soon as Mick falls!

Hmmm Essendon who many thought were finished for awhile after Knights took over are heading for the finals. They didn't really bottom out. (an excuse for some)

The youth drafted prior to Knights is coming through... food for thought indeed.

The current essendon list is 90% Sheedy's make no mistake.

So what does that tell you?.................He knows what he is doing, Knights is reaping the rewards

Forget the too old, past it, it's a young man's game, blah blah, blah.................

Sheedy reinvented himself as the game evolved through the 80's, 90's and 2000's. He would have no problem with the next decade.

Buckley or Sheedy, I would be happy with either.

Now that Port have resigned Williams I too have doubt that Hardwick has what it takes.

I didn't vote for him but i am surprised Leon Cameron hasn't garnished more support. Great mind for the game, great disposal of the footy, good leader. What are the reports on him as an assistant like?

No it's not, it's Adrian Diadoros.

ToO, on KB's program yesterday Sheedy said that he had final say on who was recruited and that it was his responsibility.

Mark Williams, Bomber Thompson, Matthew Knights, Dean Bailey, all Sheedy student's, all senior coaches. That's 25% of current AFL coaches that have been his assistants.

Adrian Diadoro.........was also a Sheedy student, taught by him on what to look for when recruiting prospective talent.

20 out of 27 years in the finals, his knowledge and experience cannot be underestimated.

Drafted or recruited?
I find it very hard to believe that Sheeds was that heavily involved in the drafting of junior talent. Can't help but feel that he's overstated his involvement. However I wouldn't have a clue so if so credit to him.
It's quite the opposite of what Wallet's been saying over the past few weeks since his departure.

Fair point. He's had some good assistants over a very long period in the game.

Yes both Wallace and Sheedy are good spin doctors, however.............

I can believe some of the things Sheedy says, Wallace is as trustworthy as a Dodgey Brothers car salesman

I was having a look at another footy forum :-X and someone over there suggested that it would be great to get Bucks
as if we succeed great but if we fail then we are taking him down with us

sounded like very good logic IMO ;D

Now that he ahs said he wants the job....SHEEDY with Hird as his assistant.

It really is a damne dif you do damned if you dont.

At least we know he is passionate, can develop players AND coaches, would set Hird up as his replacement

Imagine if we went a Buckley or Hardwick and we failed.....imagine if we goSHEEDY and we fail.

But.....I think SHEEDY for all the reasons I ahev been saying...work ethic...tough nut...focussed...driven...TIGER LEGEND

Of course, Sheedy was involved in recruiting. Of course, Wallace was, too.

If you take on a job where your balls, and nobody else's, are on the line, of course you will make the major decisions.

Who would go out an say: "Its all right, boys, you choose the players, you make all the decisions, you pull the strings and I'll take all the blame when it all goes pear-shaped. No probs?" Yes, that happens all the time.

How did Stuart Dew get to Hawthorn? Was it because the coach wanted him?

Wallace wanted to build a team of super-quick running players, so he recruiting accordingly. It didn't work and he copped it in the neck as a result. Anything he says about it now is revisionist history, just like when propaganda comes out of Hawthorn that they were chasing both Roughead and Franklin, it is just revisionist history.'

Given Sheeds thought we could win the flag at the start of the year do you think he would be he prepared to take an incentive based coaching salary that depends on regular top 4 finishes?

Keep in mind mate, when he said that he was in a marketing role. Since when did marketing have to be accurate? ;D

Sheeds is like Aker, talks the talk but walks the walk.

Yep recycled recruits are the coaches domain. Not so convinced that the juniors are.

You'll have to forgive me if I'm a little bit gun shy about coaches who make big claims in the media then don't back them up....
