Heaps of Marshall’s making sure you check in and Vax cert - then Bag check - then wand , still not in the gate.

Want to zip outside half time for a fag and a phone call - do it all again. Sh1thouse

Another good point. This entire process is ball achingly tedious. Why are we still even checking in, contact tracing is not even in effect. Ridiculous.

Must say, sitting in the sun today was bloody hot, not dissimilar to the game against Sydney last year. Certainly uncomfortable at the Punt Rd end in the blazing sun. Wouldn't have helped the crowd numbers.

Poor crowd. Becoming a theme across the AFL.
Gilligan has destroyed the game.
The media & the AFL will blame covid.
I know heaps of people that won't go because of the rule changes and especially the Standard of umpiring.
We will start to get NRL numbers.
70k might be finals crowds and 25-35k for home & away.
Let's see how many turn our to the Telstra dome at 3 o'clock on a sundey.
20k stkilda supporters 15k Richmond

On another current thread many comments say they go to the footy to watch a player who was not playing today. Not even mentioned as a factor on this thread.

35k is actually a pretty reasonable crowd for Docklands.

Last week Gilligan made the fixture a weekend of footy to fill his pockets. He said on Radio he was expecting a round 1 attendance record over 400k.
He missed it by just over 150k.
I wouldn't like Gilligan doing my Tax.

Sure is.

Last weeks crowd for the Eagles season opener in WA was an absolute shock. But it is starting to look like the new norm.

My son walked up to the gate an bought a ticket an hour before game time.

You haven't been able to do that for an Eagles game for over 30 years!
Aren't they on crowd caps?

This is why I am not going at the moment. How do I know the person next to me hasn’t got COVID ? No one wears masks and to be honest i don’t really want to get it and don’t feel 100% comfortable in a crowd as yet.
Don’t really need people bagging the turnout. We all make our choices and I am still paying my membership and supporting the club.
You didn't need to sit anywhere near anyone else today.... But I can understand many people are being selective when it comes to how often and where they mix with others which is aided and abetted by employers who are actively discouraging return to workplaces.

As a counter view l took my 5 year old to the game and she loved the experience of putting of tigers gear, walking down swan street etc. l also think that the live game experience , whilst more expensive and time consuming , is heaps better than sitting on the couch at home which we all do way too much of as it is.

Got the 246 bus along Punt Road from Elwood.
Gave myself an extra half hour to arrive earlier and avoid gridlock.
Bus driver was kind, he stopped as I ran for it.
Other words, he gave me an extra 15 minutes, bus was empty.
After the game, I wait for crowds to disperse, met Damien and Tim L briefly, said hi.
My brother hosted Damien in NY on a visit.

Absolutely disgraceful turnout today ! So we lost last week and we have 5 out and that’s the reason to stay away for our 1st home game? Poor form!!

It's not a disgraceful turnout far from it. Crowds atm are experiencing a 10-20% drop.
Almost 29K of our own fans on a Sunday arvo is passable in these covid times.

Crows brought 3-5K from 36K on a sat game v pies
Ess V lions combined 30K, lions have good support in Melbourne, break up would've been 23k Ess and 7K lions
Blues V Dogs 35K combined. 19K and 16K for each team

An oppo supporter said this which many of us who follow crowds closely agree.
10k less seems to be the trend though at the moment. Plus Victorians have really gone off Sunday football for some reason.

We all want crowds to return like pre-2019, but atm people are now just comfortable to watch it on Kayo and Fox Footy. Covid as we know some are still not going. Ticketing is still a bit messy. I know many are pivved off with mobile membership,
I am hoping once these mandates are done and there is more clarity on ticketing and membership mobile cards etc we will hopefully see a jump back of sorts in attendances.

Reckon our average against Intertate teams would be 30k.
I think the timeslot and team reflect reality.

We have no right to complain when they put this game at Marvel next yr.
Sure we do: it's not our home ground, the league doesn't have to guarantee anyone certain games now that they own it, and anyway, if it's the league's ground and we're all supposed to take turns playing there and paying it off, isn't it about time the Eagles or Poor Flopelaide played a 'home' game or six there?
