Where are you Tiger Army ??

I drove in. I’m. It sure what happened but it was an absolute disaster and took forever. 90 minutes to get up punt road from Nepean highway and got there at the end of the first quarter. Didn’t seem to be many people working the parking.

AFL is going to lose it if they don’t get rid of the stand rule and fix the live experience up. Penny pinching might save in the short run but will cost big time eventually.
Don’t ever drive - ever !

Heaps of Marshall’s making sure you check in and Vax cert - then Bag check - then wand , still not in the gate.

Want to zip outside half time for a fag and a phone call - do it all again. Sh1thouse

I was sitting on a table with 7 other blokes at the golf club yesterday, all of whom were regular attenders of matches pre Covid.

All were expressing the same sentiment, not going to the footy made them realise how much time, money and effort is saved by watching games on the TV.
Yep.

There are many reasons and varying ones but the AFL has also helped to disenfranchise its own fans.

The timeslot for this game is a death spot, so I thought the crowd wasn't too bad all things considered.
Didnt take long for the Tigers to go from Friday Night Spotlight to swapping places with the GoDeez who have had a bit of a mortgage on the Sunday Arvo Shitshow for recent years pre 2021 :mhihi

28000 today our all time record against GWS for home and away is 38000.

All things considered I reckon today is par.

Wow - on the train now coming home and simply didn’t realise this low number at all - the 28000
Must be the whole combination of time slot, COVID, GWS etc just working against us

Ordinary crowd numbers.
Watching the Tigers win in full sunshine on a glorious day. Shame about those who stayed away because they thought we’d lose

As the old saying goes, trust is the easiest thing in the world to lose and the hardest thing in the world to win back.

Some might say the flawed ticketing and entry process is a barrier to them returning, while others might say a team that gives away 8x 50m penalties to lose a winnable game doesn't deserve to be trusted.

More disciplined and whole-hearted efforts like today go a long way to winning back trust.

And, therefore, winning back crowds.

Couldn’t disagree more.

Had a family function to attend so couldn't wrangle my way to the game. Not a massive fan of watching the game on t.v. n much prefer to attend live, win lose or draw. Copped the crap at the Carlscum game n will be there for the Aints game n hoping that soon I'll be reunited with my reserved seat at the G. Just hoping I can still remember where to find it.

i also had the option and pulled out last night.

reasons:

the game of AFL itself i dont enjoy as much.
it was easier sneaking to the pool for two hours, then the couch when i got home.

all week i was planning on going, then i thought stuff it.
don regret my decision, enjoyed the pool and watching from the couch.

i will go to 2 or 3 games, usually go to 5 or 6.

So im one of those to blame for poor crowd but really the AFL has got a lot to answer for.

  • covid related reasons.
  • bizzare barcode system (given that it is entirely possible to "turn on/off" a constant barcode - eg how the system always worked previously, you couldnt just scan your 11 game membership at an away game or a collingwood game etc - why the hell do they have to be via the app and not static for the whole year?? I'm young enough totally fine with the technical side of it, but its stupid regardless, and a lot of people wouldnt be ok from the phone use perspective without family member help)
  • general watchability of afl at the moment - stand rules, defensive flooding and attacking possession (depending which team in question)
  • for some people, cost aspects

I had to buy GA tickets for the grandkids, horrible experience, only 1 ticket window open. Then trying to find where we could sit as GA, another horrible experience, had to sit in the back rows of L4 Ponsford stand. With a crowd of 28,000....

I was planning to go today but tested positive to Covid yesterday. It’s having a big impact on crowds one way or another.
This is why I am not going at the moment. How do I know the person next to me hasn’t got COVID ? No one wears masks and to be honest i don’t really want to get it and don’t feel 100% comfortable in a crowd as yet.
Don’t really need people bagging the turnout. We all make our choices and I am still paying my membership and supporting the club.

Seriously ditch the check-in and the wand

Check in is not too bad, but the wand. Yeah, let's check everyone for metal in case they bring in what? A gun, maybe a knife? Firstly, hardly any Aussies have a gun, and the sharpest knife I have ever seen was ceramic, no metal detector will pick that up. Plus, I have a cigarette case in my pocket, it is made of steel, it does not get picked up by the wand. Seriously, you could get a Kalashnikov past those wands.

It was a low crowd, Sunday arvo and against an opposition who sent 25 fans to the game I suppose not much of a surprise. But the game is not the spectacle it was with the silly rules. Plus the debacle of last week with so many outlets closed, which we saw again this week although with a much smaller crowd, would turn people off.

If the AFL becomes a TV game like so many others with smaller live crowds it will be the end of our great sport.

That's bloody ridiculous, stacks of space at the front on the top row of all the stands today, you should complain.

Any reserved seating areas not sold should be available for GA.

I think a lot of people's viewing habits have changed, and won't be changing back fast.

What the hell. We just won 3 premierships, that deserves loyalty from the supporters. We drive over 3 hours for every home game and other games we are available to attend and we always will. We went round 1 and went today and drove home listening to the foo fighters full noise- just a great day.
