When will Bernie go !!

Did we miss Todd Elton one bit?
No.

Full credit to the section committee and most importantly Damian Hardwick.
We got one over a long time nemesis tonight.

Great signs.
We selected a side to execute a game plan that worked really well, exploiting North's lack of pace compared to ours. Hardwick and the coaching staff deserve high praise for this progress. We are very fortunate to have Nank who is fit enough to ruck all night and remain injury-free. Yes we need more quality talls to be a force in September but they don't come instantly through the draft so for now I'm just enjoying watching them play. It appears Hardwick has been willing to listen to advice from the new coaches and change his failed game plan and has saved his position to see out his contract.

Just 10 losses in 8 years shows a couple of things - the club knows it hasn't had the right list to push forward with, and Dimma usually gets it done when he has the better team at his disposal.

Older does not necessarily equate to better.

How many games are we gonna win with this small forward line? Teams don't win in September playing this way.

True.
It all comes back to list management.
We lack talls.
We have improved this year, no doubt.
But the decisions over the years to stick with Elton, Maric etc, is going to cost us.

No doubt a good second key forward is going to make a huge difference, however I think I'm right saying last years premiers only had one tall kick goals in the GF, Boyd with 3.

We did miss that second tall TOO.

We had no one up the line for that get out kick. Happened a few times which meant we had to go either backwards or to a short lead. We ended up coughing up the ball and goals kicked.

don't want to speak for L2, but that's not the point. He has been consistent and convincing, to me anyway, on the point that statistically you need a certain level of experience to be a good consistent side.

So, for all those who were frothing at the mouth when Dimma said we aren't a team that wins by 10 goals, he clarified it somewhat last night.

“Our forward half is relatively inexperienced. I think we’re averaging 58 or 59 inside 50s a game, but because of that inexperience we probably don’t score the easy goals that we need to at various stages so it keeps the game close."

Makes sense to me.

Hence why we are looking to recruit KPPs. The lack of KPPson our list is on the previous recruiting staff and the list mgt not Hardwick.

History suggests you need talls to win it....but..... the game has changed again. Dogs won it last year with 3 goals each from picken, Dickson and boyd (ruck). Other goals from smith, McLean and stringer. At the other end Franklin and Tippet combined for 1 goal. The league is wide open now. A high pressure run and carry style can get the job done regardless of the tall timber.

we coughed it up a few times, and a few kicks long down the line were ,marked easily marked by roos defenders but on the whole i reckon we had fewer costly turnovers than usual. i thought generally our ability to compete in the air when we did kick long down the line was good.

Lee's point is that older teams generally have a better success ratio than younger teams. And Dimma tends to win with the more experienced team playing. By a long shot actually.

No it means he's a defeatist with a loser attitude etc etc etc.

Oh the guys who were running that line that have shuttup about it this week, funny that :hihi

Let's not get ahead of ourselves TM. One week at a time.......
We've got the bye week next week so I figured there'd be no heat on Dimma after beating a bogey side for at least an extra week, sort of like one of those elimination freebies they have in the reality shows.

Probably some of the same ones who claim we have a top 4 team. Change their mind that we need a complete rebuild. Then change that to a mini rebuild.
Just waiting on the next instalment
