FJs lived on picking up Jack an Rance and we are just lucky the Dee's had the picks before us otherwise we'd have Trengove not Dusty. We've done it to death but to have gone for flankers over mids and non competive big blokes is simply a woeful theory on recruiting .
It appears Clarke has a much better idea on what it's all about an the fact he wanted Cripps over Lennon gives us a chance to improve.
The club is soft CC. Gale is soft; O'Neal is soft. It's a simple as that. It refuses to make what some would call tough (many call them right) decisions on personnel within the club. Players, coaches, football staff. That Francis Jackson kept his job for so long despite being an epic failure and was rewarded with a consultancy after leaving the chief recruiter position is testament to the softness. Hardwick's unnecessary contract extension after 3 successive finals failures another.
The club is polar opposite to what it was in the 60s, 70s and 80s. No doubt it wasn't perfect and that behaviour ultimately led to some extremely dark times for the club. But before that there were premierships.
Now we are just paddling around going nowhere. Just making a final is seen as "success" at RFC these days.
Surely there is a happy medium between the ruthlessness of 30 - 50 years ago and the stagnation of today?
