hope Dimma is smearing the glass with his nose-oil, up at Spotless this Satdy then?

Balme needs to eyeball the playing group after that debacle on the weekend.
Has Hardwick lost the players?
Where was the effort in the first 3 terms last week that was there earlier in the season??
If they have stopped then lets not waste anymore time prolonging the inevitable.

About time the players started eyeballing themselves.

Last three weeks there's been one qtr each game of genuine intensity n work, backed up by three qtrs of half arsed almost tried.

Reckon the players got awful cosy with their five zip n finals bound hype.
Overall skills have again been found to be mediocre at best, so the only panacea for that is to intensify the work rate n intensity. Force the opposition to lose the easy skill advantage through sheer pressure. It worked fine in the first five games and also works fine when we bring it during the three losses, but it must be all game not one flamin qtr.

Might also help if the players somehow grew half a brain between them n learned how to flood back n shut down a game for twenty or thirty seconds when they're half a goal ahead. As soon as the ball was being carried back for the bounce Grub was waving desperately for all the forwards to come to defence n help fill holes. What do the forwards do? Set up the pillow n blankies in our forward line for a nice cosy rest n celebrate, bloody amazed the dip sticks didn't bring out the champers n bikkies.
Eight players in the centre for the ball up n twenty eight filling their forward half n their best option might have been a desperate up n under to the fifty arc n pray for a pack mark instead of lace out on the tit thirty out.

Mooney was talking about this on SEN tonight TM. He said Harly was excellent at laying down the law at Geelong. He would ask the coaches to leave the room and would then get very, very honest with the players.

Mooney was questioning if the current Geelong side has that sort of leader / leadership. The same question could be asked of us.

Yep, it's called honesty. If you are never willing to face up to your mistakes and failures, recognising exactly where you can get better, then you never will.

So what do all these repeat failures, 11 losses from 18 close finishes - often in disgraceful style - show about the team, its leaders and coaches?

conservatism in selection and ball movement has crept into our play since the adelaide game.

the players have gone into their shells.

smells a lot like hardwick has been obsessing over what "might happen" again.

we carry such a loser's mentality into big games.

We clearly don't, Cotch is a lead by example type captain and I don't see any of the other leaders stepping up like that.

Fresh voices, fresh start rejuvenated list. Fast start to the year.

Listen to what has been said and what has been done since round 5.

Adelaide. We need to make the game a scrap, not a shoot out. Old message by the usual voice head over 8 years. Morris back in.

Freo: Tired minds and bodies, lethargic three quarters. Batch comes in.

Hardwick's pressers have a greater quotient of lip and cheek sucking, The glazed lost expression is re- appearing. The players know there will be no answers from the coach - just the usual triple gruntitude thrown back on the players but without personnel cover provided by the coaches.

There is still a pulse though that wants to believe. Doggies game was Ok. We threw it away through skill errors and execution errors when we had the chance to score - Elton being the prime example.

This week is interesting. I feel we will challenge. The players should be stung by the commentary on the last quarter ignoring the comeback and laughing at Old Richmond because of the last 21 seconds.

But we can't just be brave. We have to win. That is very unlikely in the Hardwick era as Dimmer will always put an obstacle in the way of the team in some form whether it be wrong personnel or tactics.

Defining game.

Win and we are in the mix. Lose and we should be looking at a replacement at the bye to see if we can salvage something from the season. Tragic to throw another season away especially as we could easily be 7 - 1 if the handbrake had been disengaged a few weeks more.

As I said a few weeks ago all Hardwick had to do was keep out of the way. He visibly and audibly has appeared to impose himself on the group once more,

Agree lamb. Especially about the fresh voices during preseason which lead to the good start. Balme needs to get involved and give Hardwick some gardening duties during training and see if he can book him into a course in France.

Negative reinforcement is very powerful. Hardwick is not a man motivator he is a systems guy. Hardwicks biggest fault is that he knows we cannot win a flag without defensive structures, yet whenever he implements his defensive gameplan the wheels fall off. Positive energy creates positive results maybe Hardwicks problem is he cant sell his message to an audience that is not listening. I really belive we can win the flag this year. It is as open a season as last year. Our goal should be nothing less than total committment to a flag.

Good posting Lamb.

The Adelaide pre game presser set the tone for the last 3 weeks.

Loser mentality. The Morris selection typified that.

And this flows on to our players.

For all of Melbournes faults, they went and got themselves a true leader and winner in Jordan Lewis.

He set the tone from the outset against Adelaide. Made sure he went up to Sloane before the bounce and made it known to him that he is in for a rough night. From there on everyone followed.

Cotchin did it 2 years ago against Hodge. But its too few and far between.

Yeah great posting. That pre Adelaide presser made leysy sick.

We had trained and re-programmed the players into a new game style with the resulant early wins giving them real belief what the coaching staff had instilled could really work.

Then whilst undefeated the head coach denounces us wanting a low scoring grind and changes the structure of his team as well as bringing in a defensive forward.

One thing all great coaches pervey to there players is the absolute belief and resolve that their way is the right way. "Just keep doing it this way and success will follow".

Our guys would have rightly questioned that in Dimmer yet again that week/day.

We could possibly win the flag. I agree, it's wide open. But for us to win it, we need our best team on the park. That means Griff getting back and Prestia finding something near his best.

We can't win it without Griff. Not this year.

i dont think Hardwick's comments reflected how we tried to play though. Hardwick might have been trying to bluff the Crows.

Morris was obviously a failure as a forward, and the whole selection committee should have seen that, but i dont think his selection was a shift away from the philosophy of the previous weeks rather a step too far in that direction. we wanted to move the ball quickly then pressure the Crows backs to lead to turnovers. it worked in the 1st then failed miserably after that, in part cos we did not have a tall target.

i didnt see how the Dees won on the weekend, but i reckon we probably should have shifted direction a bit against the Crows. aim to win contested ball then more short kicking, like the Hawks game a couple of years ago. win the ball, control the ball and deny their half backs easy ball.

The many blithe and pithy statements concerning Dimma fail to acknowledge that we are very well positioned at this stage in the season, particularly when you consider results right across the competition. We win a final with our list and he earns the right to see out his contract IMO.

sorry Aegean but there is much more to the story than our 5-3 win-loss.
