Just a play on current business jargon " exposing your staff to the risk of failure". Sounds like Luke has been to a few too many management courses over the summer.NK14 said:Love this line from Luke Beverage at their season launch....

I wish we had a similar mantra...then anything is possible.

It's pretty clear to me that if Dimma wanted Jack in the leadership team he would have been in. Hardwick instead smuggled Morris in there. It's also clear that Balmey made a very strong statement that the football department (not the players) were concentrating on on field leadership. Balmey made comments that players would have input but not decide the matter. The players were being softened up and directed by the football department on how things will work.
Look at this part of the press release from the club on this issue:
The leadership group was voted by the Richmond playing group, in consultation with the Club’s coaching and football department staff, Club executive, and facilitated by leadership consultant, Shane McCurry.
So the club is even putting it in print. The football department and executive are running the show. Who do you think put out the stories that Jack is rejoining the leadership group. Who sat Jack next to Dimma at the photo shoot. The players knew they could choose any colour they like as long as it was bl(J)ack. You need some education in Balmey 101.
On game plan the noises about it changing came out very soon after the end of last year. They cam from within the club and even from challengers to the board. They did not come from Hardwick. Even you would admit Hardwick is a "structures' coach. I am sure the review made mention of overcoaching and restricting his team's offensive ability. Chocco mentioned it. Richmond made a point of taking 'offensive ball movement" off Hardwick and giving it to Caracella. A clear smack down to the coach in that area of his coaching. While the new game plan and coaching structure was implemented Dimma was sent overseas for months.
Finally on his return he admits Richmond was overcoached and that now we will 'just play". It's clear from the ambivalent language he uses he doesn't believe it, although I am sure he hopes it works. On any reasonable interpretation these changes have been imposed on Hardwick. With respect it is naive to believe otherwise.
ninjahaha said:I respect that you believe that these interpretations are so simple and straight forward!
But in my experience there are shades and complexity that exist when in real life situations. I don't believe you have given these any credence!
lamb22 said:I hear you Ninja but believe me, I am very familiar with shades and complexity.
lamb22 said:Ninja, I will give you two simple propositions.
1. Offensive game strategy was taken off Hardwick and given to Caracella.
2. The football department (ie Balmey) made the decision on the type of leaders they wanted and the structure of the leadership structure they wanted to implement.
These are both proved as 1) simply happened and 2) Balmey made it clear the players would have input but not chose the captain as such.
This is what Balmey said:
We’re working through it now . . . It’s a pretty important thing to do, and we’re not exactly sure how it’s going to pan out . . . Over the next couple of weeks, we should be able to resolve it,” Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Neil Balme, told the Club’s official podcast, ‘Talking Tigers’.
“Certainly, the players will have a huge say (on who goes into the leadership group). But it won’t just necessarily be a pure vote on who do you want to be captain, or in the leadership group. It’ll be who they want to run those parts of the program.
“But, also, it’s very much a club issue. What does the Club need? What do the coaches need? Because, our key for 2017 – what we need to do more than anything else – is be as good as we can be on the field.
“We should be saying, ‘What do we do with our leadership to make sure we’re influencing on-field more than anything else’?
“It doesn’t mean off-field’s not important, but it might be, right, exactly what do we need now?
“Obviously the coach and the (assistant) coaches will have a big influence, as will the CEO. We don’t do it without the CEO and the board ticking it off.
So in summary, the football department makes the leadership decision. Balmey makes sure the players and coaches buy into the decision and are 'consulted' and the Board signs off on it.
Part of Balmey's job is man managment and I am sure he has Hardwick buying into the idea. He may even think he is agreeing with it but the decisions were clearly not his.
