Welcome Tom Brown

The kid has serious ability.. but he does Struggle defensively…
This is the challenge for him. Doesn’t have intensity at all in man on man contests. Ok when ground balls and it’s 50/50 with him running into contact but from a contact based starting position he is awful. Best case is he becomes a Jordan Ridley type.

Bring in Trezise.
Shows much more defensive intent. Other than footskills and decision making, don’t know what more Brown offers atm.
Ideally we play both but if only one spot is up for grabs, I’d be giving Brown a reset in the VFL

Unfortunately that would leave no one in the team with foot skills or decision making

Not everyone is like Gibcus who showed outstanding ability from day one. People forget that Brown is still learning the game and has only played a handful of senior games but is shown sparks of a great future. .

Continues to show attributes of been an AFL player , however he’s attack on man and ball needs to get better quick , he’s not a kid anymore with a light frame .

Banks has improved his attack on the ball , Sonz and Brown haven’t

I think we need to get Brown more up the ground , more a genuine half back role , really he needs to work harder to get the easy hand off an use his elite boot more , maybe a learning process, however seems to be deep on his opponents a lot , not his go for me , more a third up hit the ground running player , not at all against giving some footy on a wing , may not have the tank to play an entire game , but geez it be nice to have an elite kicking wingman

It’s simple, Brown needs to takeover Shorts role completely. All kick outs and all link up plays.

I don't think we can play Brown and Short in the same backline. You can't have two players with questionable attack on the ball in the same back six.

Should be dropped for Trezise.

To many around here are in love with the idea of Brown and ignore the reality. Very mediocre like so many of our cubs are.

I don’t think Short’s ever taken a hanger like Brown did on Sunday. Brown also has much better ball use.

The difference between the players right now is Brown will harass and tackle whereas Short likes the bruise free variety of play

Less chance of getting injured
Smart play by Short

Super mark aside was pretty ordinary I thought. Needs to find a way to get more involved in the play by working harder.
56% DE & 53m gained is nowhere near good enough for the role we need him to play.
Is he tiring? Maybe needs a spell in the twos.

If only we had the luxury of being able to give players a spell in the vfl.

Where's the urgency??
He looks like a kid that knew at 8yrs old he would be playing in the AFL.
Besides a nice kick every 3 weeks, what has he done to say WoW??
Lazy, lethargic, No urgency, No desperation.
Geelong screwed us.
They took Holmes with our pick in 2020, it got Clarke & Co angry and they thought taking Brown early would pay them back.

Did you watch Trezise on Sunday?
Yep he was good. Just gets his job done every week.

James Trezise (16 disposals, 88% disposal efficiency, six rebound-50s)

“James once again showed the sort of form that he is in. He just continued to get the job done throughout the day. A few times in the last quarter when we were under the pump he was in one-on-one contests and was able to halve or win those contests and get the ball going back our way to help shift momentum in the game.”

When are you going to get it into that think skull of yours that we were never going to take Max Holmes? Noone got angry

If you look at all the draft predictions for that draft he was nowhere

This is what Cal Twomey said, he had him at 23

There's always room for a smokey. Holmes would be a genuine surprising inclusion in the top-30, but it is not beyond the realms.
