Welcome Tom Brown

Rising star nominations are a pretty good (but certainly not perfect) predictor of a players future success.

Our 2017, 2019 and 2020 premiership teams each had around 12 players that received a rising star nomination early in their careers.

We’ve only had two nominations in the last three and a half season (Cumberland and Ralphsmith). Not one player from the 2021 draft has been nominated yet despite all of them being taken inside the top 30.

The lack of nominations in recent years has been a clear warning sign that all is not well with our youth.

The rate we are going by the end of the year we won't have anyone who qualifies

Understandably top draftees should have a higher rate of nominations.
Not had too many of them.
Gibcus and Brown have shown enough that they'll be good footballers regardless if they get nominated. Both are much better than our 2 R stars.
Kinda says it all really

Fair enough but the point remains.
Gibcus and Brown are better footballers than Cumberland and Ralphsmith (who both can be fine players).

Suggesting we don't have good youth because of only RS nom is ignorant of our youth

I know this guy is just finding his feet at half back but my god hes clean and elite decision making, could we play a trezise or smith back and throw this guy in the middle for a quater or 2 I think he could be a star in there he is bloody quick anybody else notice him beat jiath to the ball in that 1 v 1.
Or maybe throw Caleb smith in the midfield in the vfl he has some pace and good at winning the ground ball we need some pace and talent in the middle of the ground surely nothing's off the table with how we are going. Even seth Campbell to some centre bounces, we can't waste this year of development and I feel like yze needs to *smile* wake up from his slumber dow aint winning us a flag in the next 10 years so next in! 2am rant over!

The way Browny moves, runs and kicks the footy reminds me a lot of Cripps.

Imo he could easily be a big bodied mid .

There...I said it.

Pretty sure I remember reading endurance was a weakness. So if he's to go to the wing or midfield, he's going to have to work on that. One passage of play aside I thought he had a poor night.

Breust almost outmarked him and almost cost me a TV.
*smile* we pickup some cat footballers

Watson did outmark him.

I still do not see the future superstar some make him out to be. Again a pretty average effort.

He did a great spoil at one stage and looked up and fumbled the ball and turned it over.

Perhaps we should be aiming to free Brown up
instead of Short?

Agree, was too passive last night. He did one good switch off play. He helped spoil a marking contest, but then he and another Tiger looked at each other about who'd get the loose ball, meanwhile a Hawk picked it up and got it free for a goal.
Happy with his upside. Not happy with the low points.

These things happen. More game time together and it will click

At the ground I was impressed. He's coming along, big improvement from the start of the year.

Not his best game by far but 12 games of experience, 20yo, he's going to be inconsistent. The backline as a whole was pretty whipped. Still think as he matures he's going to be a ripper player for us. I remember he did play on the wing for part of the game early in the season.

Needs to learn that not every kick needs to be worm burner. Play the percentages and don't get carried away with what you hear of yourself in the media.

Has a lot of tools and great upside. Needs to work on his 1-1 defensive efforts and his endurance / work rate. They are both very teachable.

Understand it is early in his career but I really struggle to see this. He gets it 13 times a game playing at half back. The ball spends a lot of time in our backline yet he does not find it much. Not sure if that is because he isn't working hard enough when we have the ball or if he is being told to play a tighter role on his opponent.

He makes one pass to Kosi last week (BTW that kick actually might have been intended for the tiger in front of Kosi) and he is some sort of elite user and decision maker? He kicked an awful one i50 yesterday when not under pressure and turned it over. I recall Ellis making a beautiful kick to Deledio and that was it. Brown has a few more tools than Ellis, athleticism being the key one.

He has some really impressive athletic traits so that is an advantage for the position. Not sure I have seen him use his leap enough when spoiling (he did a great spoil yesterday and followed it up by fumbling the ground ball). And he is pretty weak in the one on ones. Watson moved him pretty easily yesterday. I think he has a long way to go.

Lefau & Campbell are the 2 newbies I have seen this year that I am confient in being very good players.
