Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

in the past three weeks I have been a critic, however, watching the replay a couple of times, he does alot of pressure, running and provides assistance. Something I do not pick up at the games.

Well done Jason, keep it coming!

Just like Rance-Astbury-Grimes-Vlastuin have an innate understanding of each other, Rioli-Butler-Castagna do too. They're not mosquitoes. They're hyenas and they hunt as an organised pack. There's a bigger risk to changing this formula, as much as George frustrates with his panic and skills deficit.

Brilliant.

George to kick 5 in the prelim.

He hasn't had 5 kicks in a game for 5 weeks & has 1 goal to his name over that period.

I understand some of the concerns at not fixing something that ain't broke but if you can improve something even when you're travelling well, then you do.

Isolate the team success. Castagna is out of form.

Yep, he's become a non performing weak link. We've finally got to a spot where we have depth. You always look to improve and we should be.

George won't be dropped. Bolton is not knocking the door down, and does not apply the same defensive pressure. Neither does Stengle, and I don't think we could upgrade him without a long term injury anyway. Short hasn't even played in the forward line for over a year, so forget that. (He's also the worst contested and pressure player we have, statistically, so yeah, nah.)

There was a play in the second quarter, when for a change Geelong had us under siege and the ball was pinging around between legs in their forward 50. Graham grabbed it and banged it long to the wing, where Bews was 30 metres in the clear. George made up that ground in the blink of an eye and tackled him. That was the start of the 40-second pressuring of the Cats that led to Prestia catching Kolodashian holding the ball. The final phase of that play came a minute or so later, deep in our forward pocket, when George stripped an opponent, won the ball and sent an incisive handpass to Butler, who kicked our third goal.

If you can't get a kick, at least you can tackle and chase. He's doing that, he's part of the system that's working. They won't mess with that.

Yeah, that was great, but it was noticeable because it was one of his few big plays of the day.

you a right he probably wont get dropped, but I reckon Lloyd would give us more.

Agree Bolton, Stengle or Shorty probably wont give us more up forward than George would. Bolton needs to get in the gym. Should be biggest improver next year.

But evo, if Lloyd plays, he doesn't get to Bews and the ball gets pumped back inside our D50. Maybe they get a goal. Now, we probably would still have won if Lloyd, or Bolton, or Stengle, played, but it's only going to get harder from here. George is the best option to maintain the system that is working.

That's one play in an entire game.

Lloyd kicks goals and got 51 touches a couple of weeks ago, albeit in the VFL. It's not like he doesn't know how to get his hands dirty.

I'm not questioning that, I'm a Lloyd fan. But putting him in for George changes a winning formula. Lloyd is a midfielder now. He'll need to replace one to get a game.

I think the disposal count was adjusted down to 45 :)

The week before down @ Geelong, Lloyd's selfishness & poor decision making twice in the last 1/4 cost us the game

Thats why I think he'll probably stay. But personally I think Lloyd is the better option. As you say he can have a short stint in the midfield as well. People say Lloyd is too slow, but Caddy is almost the slowest player in the league and he was one of our best pressure players on Friday night.

We are a different beast since Lloyd was a walk up start each week last year. Right now it's a lot easier to be another effect pressure forward when you are surrounded by Rioli, Butler, Reiwoldt Dusty and Caddy already pressuring the opponent backs. It's like Lord of the Flies there at the moment.

I get what your saying, but quite frankly I'd feel better about Lloyd lining up for the that clutch goal in a few weeks than George.

Quoted for truth. Perfectly explained why George stays.

Our pressure is a pre-requisite. They will do nothing if there is the slightest hint it reduces.

If George misses a clutch goal in the PF, I'm going to hold you and spook personally responsible. ;)

Gee George was as nervous as a kitten in the dog pound, so many fumbles early on. But still applied heaps of heat/pressure that helped cause the Geelong players to kick in panic.

Imo he'll "learn from that" & be much better in the prelim.

Anyone wanting him to be dropped for that game will probably be disappointed.

He's played every game this year I doubt Dimma would do a Sheedy (Derek Kickett anyone)
