Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

He is an enigma. Has great movement, runs to the right positions, strong in the contest. Just can't kick.

Surely we can address his kicking so that at least he is a 50/50 chance of kicking a goal. His routine (the arm pumps etc) stinks. Needs a kechanical goalkicking coach and a psych to work full time on him. If we can fix him or at least make him 20 or 30% better we would have a seriously good player

Yep BT. The arm pump gives me the *smile* nearly as much as the missed goal ;D

I'm guessing his goal kicking is a lot better at training ,

I tend to agree , he gets the yips ,

When he kicked his first goal , a difficult shot with little expectation, he looked fantastic

His next shot was an easy one , his confidence had taken a boost from the previous shot , he slotted it

He is a 50/50 chance at goal, we need it to be 60/40 or better.

Is going to kick 25 goals for the year. Should have 35 with what he has missed.

That’s value. He is different, he is a hard match up and creates opportunities.

Must persist.

I love the kid but oh so infuriating.

Nothing drives me insane more than a banana kick. There is no science behind it. Its pure fluke if you hit it right from a distance. If I were a coach i would ban my players from kicking the banana. Learn to snap on your left FFS. The probably of kicking it straight is much higher.

Often thought he would get dropped once Bolton or Stengle got some games under their belt but Castagna is doing his job - agree Scoop he should stay in.

When was the last time we had a small forward kicking 25+ for the year.

He also is sort of symbolic of the team this year - came from nowhere, can play match winning footy but is still inconsistent - struggles to put together a 4 qtr dominant performance - is very young and has incredible upside if he continues to develop and continues to surprise - a lot to like I reckon.

You sure Bin? Looks flukey, but there's more science in kicking a banana than a straight drop punt. Bit like bending the round ball....like Beckham did.

Stick to the round ball bin man, the banana is a relatively simple and predictable kick to make.

This guy is our Crazy Horse. Never know what he will or can do!

Crazy Horse Castagna.

He's inaccurate because he's kicking in a state of exhaustion. Puts in so much repeat sprint work, tackle pressure, extra leads, shepherds and one percenters - it's why he gets so many shots at goal. But it's also why he misses a few easy ones.

Could be anything, this kid. Experience will iron out a lot of the kinks as he learns how his body reacts and recovers.

The last couple of weeks he's given us a better look at his ferocity.

Yeah, when he misses those easy set shots you can really see he wants to punch himself in the head Pettifer-style.

Exhaustion? How come he can miss sodas directly in front from 25-30m early in the term, then kick one from the boundary from 40 m late in the 3rd. Then kick one from in front in the 4th?
It happens on a regular basis. It's not like he has all his misses when he's exhausted and hits his goals when he's fresh.
It's mental. When he's snapping he hasn't got time to think about it. Fix his mental demons, it's not his fitness.

You guys are easily pleased. Because he kicked 3 after half time against a team that is the worse since Fitzroy means nothing.
He is a momentum killer
He will cost us dearly (already has GWS)
Can't see why he isn't instructed to give it off more often..
