Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

Guess I'm just disillusioned with selection after 7 years.

Literally the only joy I would have had out of these last five games would have been in watching Castagna, Beanie, Menadue, etc.

I see, of course, the argument for dropping Castagna for Lambert, but not the point.

Fair enough Coburger - I hear ya brother.

I reckon the selection committee has done a pretty good job of introducing the kids this season and particularly in the latter few games. I find the constant howls of outrage as a young player goes back to the VFL pretty tiresome when it's clear they will come back up soon. Connor's been a good example of this. Getting smashed a la Hawthorn did to us last week does no-one any good, but that's just my opinion of course.

I nearly put "But then again, I am a club apologist" at the end of that post but thought why write what people already know?

I'd like a dollar for every time I've been accused of being a RFC plant and PRE being an official RFC site. Anyone remember dmx?

If you find these tiresome maybe an early night might refresh you. :spin :spin :spin

With list decisions looming does he stay on the list?
50/50 for mine. if you're going to play as a running HB or outside runner it's imperative to have excellent footskills.

For all his dash he's very sloppy by foot.

Unlike Short I can't see an upgrade to the main list & won't be surprised if he is cut.

We're looking at bringing in players with #27, #50 and #64 or something. And we've already got list space for them.

I hope we can find somebody more consistently flawed than George to punt, Oldster. I like his best.

If Fly gives up on him I'll cop it. But I hope we keep him.

Doggies showed that not all outside players need to be elite by foot. What he could potentially add in dash and intensity outweighs his kicking ability.

he wont get delisted...batchelor should go before him

we have 37 on snr list so 3 takes us to 40, reckon we may go 38/6 which seems to have been the favoured structure in recent times which means 2 may go this week

Agree with the 2nd part. Batch most def should go first. That said I don't see them vying for the same spot.
We've got quite a few half backs. Can Jason make the progression to the midfield is the question that needs answering.
Otherwise go & draft a specialist mid with a late pick. We've got too many flakey flankers on the list.

Improving and I like players who improve.

Much better player in 2016 than he was in 2015 where he was at times like a headless chook with some promise, he needed to tidy up his game.

If he improves again in 2017 he will push hard for selection but i like him in the back half rather than forward myself

Broad would also be in the gun you'd reckon...

Yep huge queries but he's contracted for '17. Batchelor goes before him you'd think on that basis.
That's 3 backline runners with ordinary kicking.
Add McIntosh, Conca? & Astbury who are also a bit sketchy by foot & there needs to be some casualties.

Castagna best work is forward of centre. Refer to Dogs game this year. Can get the hard ball.

Is a keeper for me.

Yep I liked him there too. Didn't he kick a couple of goals too? Reckon he's more of a mid / half forward rather than a half back. We also have plenty of half backs.

My guess is he will continue on the rookie list next year.

He's lucky he's got a contract. Woeful draft choice. Saying that he did improve at VFL level as the season progressed. Maybe he has more in him. Speed of the game and his ability to make decisions to match a massive weakness. Batchelor better, but uncontracted and less athletic.

As for George, has the tools. Reminds me of a more talented Matthew White at that age. Just runs into trouble and/or doesn't slow down in the kick. Not as tough as Whitey, but I think his upside is higher. I'd keep him another 12 months to see if he can reach them.

Delist Lambert, Moore and Butler instead.

Agree. He'll be rookied again.
