Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

George can go missing. He just seems to lose his place in the game. I'm disappointed to see him dropped but he was AWOL last week. Hopefully he brains them a level below.

Wouldn't matter much if he did.

Might earn a single game off the bench. And then dropped for Townsend.

A kid gets dropped for a very average yet those who under perform on a weekly basis still get gifted games. Cannot be the right way to go

I just don't get it with these coaches.

If he has a blinder at VFL you think he won't be promoted, CT?

Seems Castagna has already had his papers stamped as 'first dropped whenever Hardwick needs scapegoats'.

I'm not sure a blinder would get him back into the side, but I am sure that if it did, he would still be first to go next time Hardwick gets his gameplan force-fed back to him by a superior coach. You know, all of them.

That's not my way of looking at things, Ct, but to each his own.

If he was sent back to 'work on things he has learned' I don't see the problem with this. However, the fact he has been named as an emergency may well mean he doesn't get to play VFL this week. This, imo, is the poor part of the decision, as all young players need to move up and down depending upon the stage of their development.

Another case of selecting for your coaching career. 5 meaningless games to go, get as much into the youngsters as you can.

Bang on! Will watch with interest

So Costanza has never been dropped for Townsend yet right? At least go for Lambert or similar.

He's just been dropped for Lambert. I'm assuming Lambert will not be dropped again because obviously he's our best player, and is first picked when fit. So if Castagna gets another shot, he would then be immediately replaced by Townsend, if I understand the Hardwick play book (which granted, no one does, including both him and the players).

Clearly Castagna spent too much time running with the ball toward the goal, creating and attacking, so naturally he's the type of player who Hardwick blames for a 70 point loss, and Townsend, who will just keep headbutting the ground until either he or it relents, will be the kind of player Hardwick trusts to steady the ship and guide us toward a respectable 2 goal loss.

Hence I mentioned him Coburger :)

Surely not too much, only had 3 kicks. This is why I don't have a problem with him being dropped - he'll be back up again.

Guess I'm just disillusioned with selection after 7 years.

Literally the only joy I would have had out of these last five games would have been in watching Castagna, Beanie, Menadue, etc.

I see, of course, the argument for dropping Castagna for Lambert, but not the point.
