Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

He kicks straight, we have a real player.
He holds his marks, we have a star.

Yeah he's an almost superstar. Even if he holds half his marks and kicks 2/3rds of his goals he will be a top liner. Ball follows him around

Pressure is amazeballs.

To reach his potential he needs to be a 1 touch player.

If Mav has a good JLT series and Lynch is ready round 1, I'm not sure he will be picked which underlies our forward depth.

That's also my issue with Castagna -- too many fumbles. He works so hard to be in the right spot, but panics a little when he has the chance to use the ball.

100%. Has the attributes but maybe rushes too much. Needs to slow the mind down a little and compose himself more. Has the potential but will see a lot of pressure on his position this year.

There are two types of people in this world: those who understand how integral George is to our side, and those who are wrong.
He's a bloody ripper is Georgie. Does a massive job for us up forward, creates chaos n uncertainty in the minds of the opposition defence time after time n his numbers are stacking up well with some of the elite small forwards. Can only imagine how highly he'd be regarded if he could just stick a few of those half chance, nearly Georgie moments that he creates n stuck his goal accuracy up nearer to 60%. Georgie would be a mega star instead of just bloody exciting.

Watched the three finals of 2017 and he did fumble far too many times and hand and foot disposal was poor too often. Mind you having McIntosh handball into your face isn’t exactly a good wonderful like for like!
Will need to tidy his game up to stay a regular imo, could be overtaken by others

Yup. Bloody exciting to watch when the ball gets near him.

42.5% accuracy in front of goal, that’s pretty stinky. And said it before but praising him for this “chaos” theory is way OTT. Would way prefer he be more composed, fumble less and kick more accurately.

TT, you gotta take the good with the bad. You can’t attack the oppo so feverishly and then decide to recline with a smooth cigar once you’ve created the turnover. His brain and heart must be going a million miles an hour to maintain the intensity.

When fit he goes straight into the 22. Need the 3 amigos back.

One less forward spot when Lynch arrives. I think it will be tough for all three amigos to be picked. Rioli is a lock so could end up being a fight between Castagna and Butler

The forward line structure will change but having the three amigos in the 22 doesn’t. Locking the ball in our forward 50 is best served with those three players in there. Baker comes in if any of the three are unfit.

Kind of think the 3 amigos might be over.
They came, they saw, they kicked some ass.
But sadly I think it’s over

Time to switch it up.

We'll find out but my guess is Rioli/Castagna/Butler days are over. The setup changes significantly with 2 tall forwards and likely Balta spending some time forward as well. I'm not sure if many realise but last year the three amigos all played together only 3 times Rounds 13,15 and 16 but we still managed a 18-4 win-loss record.

If we go back to our grand final forward line , it may be a straight swap lynch for Towner , the rest staying similar ,

Different options , balta , Higgins , dusty etc roatating in and out , jack , lynch , Rioli, butler rotating up the ground ,

I think we are pretty versatile and we can keep the opposition guessing by swapping up the mix , changing set ups to create mis matches

Caddy?

Yeah forgot caddy in the post , but yeah he is a great mark , doesn’t look tall but plays like a tall , also can rotate up the ground ,

I think the addition of lynch , and then hopefully balta coming of age , added to jack and caddy plus our fleet of smalls , we are well placed to mix and match .

I like the 2 Tall 1 Med 3 small system with the occasional extra tall drifting in to create the mismatch and the mid dropping out for the extra small to do the same but fundamentally 2 talls.

HF: Rioli - Riewoldt - Butler
FF: Caddy - Lynch - Castagna / Baker

Higgins/Balta/Dusty/Edwards rotating through

Looks pretty close to what will be happening with our forward set up for the year.

Jaaack n the Lynch mob ( maybe we should call him Hangman ) to be the two prime forwards when Dusty doesn't kick everyone out. They'll be ably supported by rotating variations of Sausage, Geezer, Shedda, Georgie, Higlet, Cadds, Balta, Bakes n a bunch of other roaming mids n half backs sneaking within range. That's a fair range of options n chaos for opposition coaches to try n cover.
