Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

Ive got a feeling Weller will be around the mark for a few games just something in my gut.

He could very well apply some pressure on George.

Yeah, not sure how serious that was. Any player with an Italian or Greek last name gets linked to the Blues by default.

Given he's also a GWS player lock in Coniglio at carlton next yr.

We'll keep the three for sure ILHO.

Expecting Caddy to spend more time up the ground.

Baker, Bolton, Higgins, Lambert, Rioli, Castagna, Naish, Weller, Edwards, Butler, Caddy, Martin all options for forward line time. Personally I'll be surprised if it's Rioli, Castagna, Butler as the main small forwards this year. Castagna looks to be the least skilled to me and therefore will face the most pressure to keep his spot.

Agree to disagree. We won't compromise the pressure we apply, thus speed will not drop.

What the exact makeup is, not 100% i.e. Rioli more mid etc. But fully expect all three to play.

Rioli, Butler and Higgins are the 3 amigos for mine. Reckon George would have been dropped late in the season had Butler been fit.

Same leysy. If someone better (eg more marks/goals/assists) can compete the way George does then we will have a battle for his spot. Otherwise Rioli/Butler/George all play.

I also expect Rioli to spend more time upfield and Butler as well. I'd love to get their speed involved further up the ground - they both have pretty neat skills, would love them running forward of centre with Jack & Tom as targets.

Grigg may find himself under huge pressure for his spot this year.

Agree. George had a ripper start to the season last year, 12 goals in the first 6 games and 7 goal assidts but only kicked 12 and 6 goal assists in the next 16 including zero goals in the finals. His pressure acts overall had dropped off in many games as well. Maybe he was carrying something but regardless of your pressure you also need to get the scoreboard ticking over otherwise there will always be pressure on your spot. Made worse at the Tigers by the number of players that can play small forward or rotate through there.

Weller does not possess the aerial ability of Castagna. None of the mosquitoes do. Hence why Castagna is a different cat to the others.

Weller i suspect will be behind those 3 for getting a game.

And Higgins likely to play more time onball with Conca gone.
As will Caddy with Big Tom Lynch inside.
Agree we will still play 3 mosquitoes so George is a probable

Will be tight for spots

There you go, even he's admitted it. Go George!

CASTAGNA HOPES HE’S UNCOVERED GOALKICKING SECRET
Richmond small forward Jason Castagna has kicked 54 goals in his first 50 games, a state up there with the best in the business, but he knows his accuracy, or lack of, has cost him dearly and he’s dedicated his pre-season to sorting it out.

Not a fan of Weller, but Castagna gives away more frees from attempting mark of the year with every entry. Cant recall many he's actually taken because of it.

The final against Geelong. To seal the game, he rose above 4 Geelong defenders and took the mark level with level 1 of the Ponsfold Stand. And then coolly went back and slotted it from 50 on the boundary.
No Cas No Flag.

There are two types of people in this world: those who understand how integral George is to our side, and those who are wrong.

I think Georgie’s importance changes with Lynch coming into the side .

I kind of feel for Castagna as he was being asked to do a job thats not really beneficial to his own game

I believe he was being asked to fyly for marks and create a contest even if he had no chance to mark the ball at least create the contest which may half the contest and bring the ball to ground for the crumbers and he should have been that crumber.

My biggest issue with Castagna is more his kicking accuracy as he does spray the ball a fair bit and needs to improve this part of his game, If he could improve his kicking and play as the crumber and his natural game i think he would be alot more dangerous than he has been.
