Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

I really don't know how you consistently miss from there. Must be kicking it with the side of his boot.

The 3 Amigos played but our forward pressure was poor.
Castagna's skill is too. For a small forward his conversion is totally unreliable.
Caddy can't get back quickly enough.

Against popular opinion I know, however as good a role as the lads did as pressure forwards in 2017, they imho were a bit overatted with the true value to the team, not saying they weren’t important, just to me that flag was actually won by the brilliance of the back half, the class of Martin an Cotchin through the middle and the genius of both Reiwoldt in the forward half and Dimma in the box.

Both George and Butler are average footballers imho, they make so many errors, yes George plays with outstanding courage and flys like Glenn Archer in the air making a contest but rarely marking, to me a forward line of Lynch, Reiwoldt, Caddy, Martin, Rioli dose the need a George type in it, we need more class, lots of pressure acts but kicks the goals that need be kicked.

Thursday night the one brilliantly roved deep forward goal came from Edwards , hit the pack hard , clean hands, bang goal.

I’m not convinced by Bolton as a small forward or even making it at all , however I’d like to see him get a go and definitely like to see Aarts get in there and ad some aggression. I’m not at all in the panic change mode, I just think we can do better then George and Butler , at least one has to be replaced at some stage this season

The line about Edwards says it all Mr B. He’s pure class, George and Butler are handy scrappy players who can have their day, but there’s a massive gulf between them and the likes of Shane.

He has that great judgement, clean hands and timing that class small forwards have doesn’t he

Just rating the small fwd talents

1. Edwards
2. Higgins (it’s close)
3. Rioli
4. Butler
5. Castagna
Funny thing that’s probably the same order as they would be rated in the midfield too

He just doesn't have the speed we need to execute forward pressure. George is also much better at bringing the ball to ground than Shedda.

IMO Catagna has always been better suited as a straight line running defender.

Short is too light to be a defender but knows where the goals are and can hit targets.

Matye switch Catagna to defence and Short to high half forward/wing?
.

Not a bad thought. Improvise Tigers!!

He'd be lucky to hit a target by hand or foot. But he'd certainly be unpredictable

Agree. At least when he misses his target up forward it goes out on the full. In the backline his disposal, the ball would come back over his head with interest.

One game back and the knives are out for George.

Give him a little time and he'll be back to his competitive best.

George has played about 10 good games in his career. Time to give him an extended run in the VFL and bring Bolton in. Far more upside!

You're right - but they never have been good enough.
All along he's been inclined to make really obvious skill errors such as missing targets with pretty straightforward handballs.
If a bloke keeps making those sorts of errors year after year - it's usually a sign it ain't gonna get much better.

In 2017 he made up for basic skill errors with his overall energy and chasing and hassling and occasional brilliant stuff among the chaos.
But there was just about a net benefit (and fwiw I really wanted him to play in the GF)

But he's surely at a possible tipping point now as to whether he is best 22.
Ball is in his court I suppose.
