George eats Townsend and Lloyd for breakfast in a few areas.

Firstly pressure, secondly overhed ability, thirdly pace which gives him the ability to cover exits and the switch for the opposition.

None will play ahead of George. Rightly.

Lloyd is pretty good overhead, and a much better set shot kick, but he & Townsend are slow. , can't bring the frenetic pressure that George does.
He can panic defenses with his manic pressure, but Towner does hit harder.

Maybe not highly skilled kicking wise as we know, but he is certainly a skilled footballer once you bring his whole package in. A freak.

Has so much untapped potential. Leyys fully expects him to be in the reckoning for All Australian squads ala Lambert once it all comes together.
Hope your right Brian, however I don’t share the same excitement, there’s no doubt Georgie plays his role extremely well , though I think his a limited footballer due to how poor his disposal is and his still a bit of a fumbler, bottom line his a vital cog in our forward half and should only improve.

Keep creating opportunities for yourself Georgie. His kicking will always be a chance of letting him down but he is elite at creating opportunities in the forward 50.

Was very disappointed! the one that hit the post, should of gone through. But players do have off days. His other attributes are very good. Just practice your kicking a bit more George, please!

agree. No way you'd drop him. Always brings the ball to ground. Probably even better than Reiwoldt in making sure the opposition plus one doesnt just pick us off.

He needs to run straight at the target on his set shots, he runs out to the right on his last few steps.

Would shock me if Castagna had an AA year, would need to kick 40+ goals which at this stage seems a pipe dream. He certainly brings pressure & pace to the table but his finishing is generally poor. This is one position I'd be looking at upgrading with the next draft, a Jade Gresham type would be just what the doctor ordered.

Correct.

George doesn’t play and everyone will be wondering why good opposition start intercept marking all the time.

Agree with this. Georgie consistently competes out of his weight division in the air. Before last night he had kicked 20.14 on the season. However it's hard to argue that he didn't cost us the game last night. Needs to rebound quickly.

Couldn’t agree more. Rewatch last year’s finals series and you’ll see exactly how important this component of his game was.

Isak Rankine is the guy who would slot beautifully into our side ATM, poise & class personified. Aerially he's as good as Castagna, although his consistency is far suprior & he can kick straight. Not sure what it would take but we would almost certainly need to trade into the top 10, possibly top 5.

Someone explain that 1st goal attempt. Runs into the open, no player within 15 metres, and some how just does a 'sidekick' towards the goals instead of kicking straight??

True.
Had a bad game for sure - but getting the ball and making mistakes with it is one thing. If he hadn't got a touch at all it'd be a bigger issue.
Is not an automatic lock-in for the rest of the year but deserves an opportunity to go again (and kick straight)

Needs to re-focus on his kicking. It's all mental. In the early rounds he was solid with his kicking. Now he's all over the shop. Spinning the ball in his hands, eyes looking around, running around to the right etc. Noticed he's not doing the kennedy stutter anymore which seemed to be working for him.
Needs to find the head space he was in from the early rounds.

George has a knack of sometimes making the simple things in footy very difficult for himself

With a decent size 10 up the arse , I reckon George got the message , he certainly won’t be dropped

Unfortunately his goalkicking woes aren’t fixable by a size 10 up the arse.

Has one bad day in front of goal and it looks like the new whipping boy has been anointed.

Has always been unreliable in front of goal, even during our premiership campaign. Do I think he should be dropped? No. Do I think we could do better with some careful recruitment? Yes.

Bottom line is Castagna is a 10 possession, 1 goal, 1 behind, 1 GA player. Tackling is also below the average for his position. The thing that stands out most is the shots he's missing, it's not like he's continually shooting from the boundary line.

Now compare that output to Gresham, Ronke, Josh Thomas, Puopolo, Garlett etc.

Think we need to get over the fact he's a premiership player, I'll be eternally grateful for his contribution but he's not elite for his position and never will be.
