Welcome to Tigerland - Tim Taranto

Richmond are ranked 14th for clearances, the problem hasn't gone away with the addition of Taranto.
The net difference between the side that is ranked 8th in clearances vs us is 3 (179 vs 176) over 5 games. That’s marginal.
In fact Melb have only one more clearance than Richmond in the five games total this season.

Do Melbourne also have dire clearance issues?

Will Brodie was my suggestion with regards to clearances, a low ball risk with reasonable upside, much better to look at GC youngsters, plenty have underperformed so you are generally getting good bang for the buck. At the draft I would have taken Johnson over Brown & Howes over Banks, not radically different but a much more balanced blend of players.
Wait, you previously said you had Johnson over Gibcus and Goater over Brown.
Now it’s changed?

We'll find out this weekend, if I was a betting man I'd say we're in trouble.

We have a dire centre square clearance issue and that’s cost us wins in the last 3 games. We are 18 out of 18 on that stat

Everything documented & timestamped because I know you lot love a good trolling.

And just a bit of advice to people who dislike my posts, either ignore me or I will flick the switch myself.

I like reading your posts, but to be honest today you are comming across as a sook, anyone who has an differing opinion to yours is getting attacked by you. Like I said I enjoy your contributions, but not so much today.

At least you are attempting to be polite, that is a rarity, and maybe this my cue, I don't usually hang about after the draft, I guess it's different this time given the club is struggling & this will be the start of a new era. I also stand by everything I've said, I haven't gotten personal with others, but if you believe this path couldn't be avoided then I'm preaching to the wrong crowd.

No he didn't but his inclusion has put a handbrake on the rebuild, you could argue he is part of the rebuild but the danger of these trades (much like O'Meara) is that you wind up middling and being shut of any top level talent further down the track. Hawthorn have realised this and begun the clear out, it only takes a couple of years of top picks to get your house in order. If I'm being brutally honest, I think Taranto is a like for like replacement for Kane Lambert, the difference in draft capital stark & 7 years excessive in the extreme. When you get cheap plug & plays you at least have some levers to pull, play the kids if the season is toast, target a couple of franchise players in the draft. This can still be done of course but it will have to be next year & beyond.

It was the giving up of that future 1st, which has really cost us the advantage you refer to.

Imo the trading of a future 1st round pick, is in all cases, too much of a risk. As a result we are going to learn a lesson that I hope will guide us for a least the next 30 years, after which I don’t imagine I will care.

The overpayment can be viewed as an exaggeration. It was actually picks 14 & 22. Hardly earth shattering stuff.
Throw in the fact we got pick 19 (which as you say ended up at 22) for that spud CCJ, which is hilarious, so we easily won that trade

Brisbane gave up a future first round pick, pick 21 and a future second round pick for Josh Dunkley.. that’s almost as much as we gave up for TWO players, and Taranto is having a better season thus far.

For me, just has to keep working on his kicking efficiency. I see similarities to Jobe Watson in his first half of his career and how he improved his disposal from his mid 20s onwards. Not saying that Tim will do the same but with the right focus and development this area of his game can be fixed. Being a mid 20s player is not an excuse to acknowledge your still developing aspects of your game. I knew exactly what we where recruiting (see very early pages,) with massive question marks on his kicking and at that stage preferring Hopper over Tim.... we ended getting both now we got to make it work for us.

Unfortunately, I think his disposal issues are more terminal than technique.

To me, it seems to be poor composure and decision making. Composure can come with experience, but it's marginal. Decision making is often for life.

Don't remind him that he'd previously said he'd trade our then future (2019) first pick to secure Bailey Williams and Jack Bytel. Then he was going to trade our 2020 first to get back in the 2019 first round. Yet somehow still had pick 17 in 2021, even though we gained that in a swap for our 2020 first, which he'd already said he would have traded a year earlier. Cake and eat it. No Johnson for you!

The numbers are always very kind to Dunkley, monsab. They are less kind to Taranto but they do flatter him a bit over his career. But imo is not a terminal potato. I think we’ll bring him on.

Dunkley really has no game other than the starchy one he plays. He can’t lurk wide for cheapies as often because Brisbane has other potatoes doing that.

It was no surprise to me that RFC showed zero interest in Dunkley.

Taranto is about what we can make him. I’m fascinated to see the development.

Maybe playing a game with a pair of rucks (neither of whom at actual rucks) with a combined 20 games experience, and another game with a ruck with a broken foot has impacted on our clearances. in addition to having 2 new mids who have played very little with what ever ruck we have had.

Last post for awhile, I'm taking a long break, I'll drop in and put in some suggestions for the draft later in the year, as is the case every year I get abuse, get accused of being anti Richmond and get accused of manipulating my draft selections despite the fact everything is documented and 60 players ranked in order. My Richmond picks are also documented & have been for 15 years (that still doesn';t deter some of the trolling).

As to some who claim I traded the Johnson pick, please show me one bit of evidence, eg. the player I chose in lieu of Johnson, the time, etc. I can tell you now you won't find it because it doesn't exist. I made one comment 12 months out from a draft about taking advantage of MRJ in a similar manner to other F&S selections , every club does that so it shouldn't be such a hotbed issue. As it turned out MRJ wasn't a top 20 pick so it was never mentioned again. And herein lies the problem with dealing with some people on PRE, there is a constant game of one upsmanship, on one hand I get called out for faking my selections, then when I post them I get called out for promoting players from other clubs, then when I refrain from posting names I get snidey remarks about not posting names. Just a little bit of advice to some on here, speak nicely and with respect, especially when you are wrong about stuff. I've always attempted to be transparent & that is why I have kept a digital record.

And to the troll who won't let up, get some rest, I'll be out of sight from now so go and find a new plaything.

I would argue that Taranto is a big part of hte rebuild being a top round pick, with development a fair few years in and with us for 7 years and currently in his prime. He is a massive part of our next tilt as is Hopper due to age and stage of development. Any rebuild probably revolves around them to be honest. I dont think these trades set us back at all. Both were first round top 10 picks.

Fair enough, I won't add anything more because I'm taking a break but thank you for at least being cordial.

I have been fairly happy with TT & Hopps thus far.

I think our clearance numbers will improve significantly if we can get a decent tap ruckman in Soldo on the park
