Welcome to Tigerland - Callum Moore

From the VFL Report:

Callum Moore
23 disposals, five marks, seven inside-50s, eight score assists, two goals two behinds.
Played his best game for the year. Played as a key forward working up the ground, but also working hard inside 50. Everybody that was at the game would have seen his strengths, particularly his running with the ball and his speed.

Has been building nicely over the past few weeks.
If he keeps improving, can he possibly be our 2nd tall forward for next year?

he was very impressive, has significantly improved his kicking in the last 12 months

he;s a chance

T-Shirt Tommy I mentioned on the VFL board that I couldn't understand, in a year where we have been begging for a key or lead up forward, that the club has not seen fit to elevate Moore from the rookie list to give us that option.
To me he seems to have most attributes that we are looking for, extremely athletic and a really strong mark both on the lead up and with his leap. His agility I would have thought would allow him to slot into our forward line without losing our forward defensive pressure. He is also versatile and can be played in a variety of positions. His kicking which was his weakness seems to have improved markedly this year.
I reckon Moore would just about shade all our Mosquito fleet in a sprint and at 193cm and I don't see how he doesn't suit our forward setup perfectly. But no Dan and Blair are too busy looking in other clubs back yards. If I were a list manager at another club I would be getting in Callum's ear and try and pinch him from under our nose, (Kane Lambert like).
I’ll admit that my football knowledge is just that of an avid supporter but I do attend most of our VFL matches live.

Think the issue is that he missed a month or so through injury during the year and is just now gitting peak form.

I don't think we should be blaming our recruiters and list managers for picking Callum as a rookie.

Perfect rookie pick, great athlete and intensity. Poor skills and at times decision making. Renovator's delight!

Great risk/reward pick.

For those that have watched Moore in the VFL this year, would you keep Callum on the rookie list, elevate to main list., or de-list at years end. I would elevate to main list as I think most clubs will take minimum picks in a shallow draft and look to promote any worthwhile rookies.

Thanks for your insight caesar, I've got high hopes for Callum.
I thought with us have plenty of small forwards that he might have got elevated instead of Stengle, I'm not sure whether he was fit at the time though.

We just may not have had a spot. Once we had elevated Castagna, Stengle and Soldo we didn't have a lot more list spots to play with.

Was just meaning on the main list this year so he could play, we elevated the other 3, I'm not sure many other spots through LTI became available. He'll be on the list (whether main or rookie) next year for sure.

Elevate to main list asap! Like, this week if possible!

Not sure what's happening with the rookie list, however if it remains as it is I see no harm in keeping him on the rookie list for now, in saying that I would have no issue with him been upgraded, from the games I've seen his probally the biggest improver at VFL level, in 12 months his gone from a freak athlete who could take a grab to a much rounded footballer, who still needs work, however now looks a chance of been able to play AFL.

Bit harsh on drummo.

Yarran maric elton batchelor hunt morris and possibly lennon with miles and lloyd traded out would be my guess

That is exactly what I would do.

It is pretty clear this year.

There is no rush. Because of a historical lack of depth or viable development team, we either rushed players into the seniors under prepared or delisted them under developed. The new Richmond seems to have a strong development structure in place whereby young players are taught how to play and become better versions of themselves. The fact that Moore is improving should be celebrated but does not mean we instantly have to promote him and start blaming the club that these guys are being overlooked. Patience grasshoppers. He is coming along nicely. It's a new way of looking at things. CEllis is another that is being groomed. Don't write these kids off until the club does and don't expect instant promotion if they show glimpses. I'm starting to get the feeling the club knows better than us. It hasn't always been that way.
Imagine a life where we started to trust the club. This website would be obsolete. On second thoughts lets continue the potting !!

Good post Blind.

I think our development program that we have at the club this year is on the up.

A talented group of coaches down at the club which is showing up in our VFL side and the number of kids showing and developing nicely.

Callum, no rush. Another year on the rookie list and I'm sure we will see him play next year and show his further improvement.

The club has done so well in these group of coaches under Hardwick.

Well if Dusty goes you might want to hold onto Miles. I'd do so anyway.

The test is whether we cut Morris, Hardwick is famously loyal and stubborn, If we keep Morris and lose a Miles or Lloyd he should have the souls of his feet caned.

Good post. Although i can see the temptation to elevate him with his size and speed, he is just starting to play well at VFL level.

Reckon he will be signed up at the end of the year, whether it be rookie again or main list.

Definitely stays on the list. No reason to keep him as a rookie for another year and upgrade him when required/ form merits.

Not so bullish on Chol. Think I would wave him on
