Welcome to the Tiggers - Daniel Butler

Think it was our game plan of bombing it long blindly into the forward line last night that did that.

This was our biggest issue. Although we were only 4 points down on the half time break, that style of play was not going to win the game.
Looked better moving the ball in the centre or wings with the run, then kicking it long.

Lynch had sometimes two and three on him.

We must not begin to bomb the ball long, but running through the lines. this will create more early opportunities.

Butler looks great when he is on a full flight sprint with the ball. He would surely be one of our quickest players and has a very fluent running style. However, unfortunately just like Menadue he doesn't show this speed often enough and doesn't get enough possessions at the top level. Personally I would like to see Butler given a decent amount of game time on a wing for a couple of weeks and for Hardwick to tell him to run his backside off up and down the wing using his speed, including chasing down opposition players. IMO we need all of our small forwards to demonstrate versatility. IMO Hardwick and the other coaches should be pushing him more to use his best asset much more - straightline speed.

Trouble is other teams have worked out our straight line speed - our move it forward at all costs. They often have a defensive player ready for the forward tap or hand pass into space.

We need to evolve keeping the speed but increase our skill level.

Butler, I am not so sure about now, Bolton has the speed and skill, just needs consistency, Stack has speed, skill and strength. When we have a full list available, unless Butler improves he might be the one to make way.

Our game plan stacks up, when we execute it.

The biggest problem on Friday night was that we weren't switched on. They were running through tackles which isn't unusual for the first tackle, but when we are on, it's the receiver that is usually mowed down, and usually by more than one tackler.

There was none of that. To take down the receiver you need to be switched on, and have numbers at the ball. We seemed to be out numbered and with little or no anticipation.

I agree with Hardwick, we didn't apply pressure so our defenders suffered accordingly. Our forwards had a hard day of it too with little clean supply coming through. Players like Butler and Higgins were always going to struggle last night. Lastly, JR seems to have a better knack of staying in a marking competition to at least even it than Tom Lynch. Hopefully his best will start to show after the bye, but right now i wonder if we really need to get another big body like a Townsend back into the forward line to at least ensure the ball reaches the ground. It's a disaster for us when the opposition marks as often as what happened Friday, as the smalls have no role in this scenario.

Continues to go backwards.

Quick question, when he suffered the Ankle injury (Adelaide game) last year was it in contest or did he just roll it?
Because he hasn’t been the same player since that game.
Ironically that was the last time I reckon we played at our best.

P.s we lost graham that night too.

Am getting very frustrated with Butler, Castagna and Rioli. We desperately need these guys playing well and kicking multiple goals each. Only two goals between them, both coming in the last quarter when the game was petering out. Maybe the coaches are restricting their natural instincts for scoring but each of them just have to do a lot more in a game with possessions and scoring.

I generally wont hang a youngster for an error.

But im struggling with Geezer scything pass to the bloke standing on the mark.

They talk about Richmond Man?

I think hes been reading the 90's edition?

Like i said, i wont hang him

He's yet to regain his nimble sidestep since rolling the ankle. He had a few great games before that. Might improve quite a bit with more confidence in the body, he looks to be running on tram tracks atm.

That was indefensible and gave the defenders no chance to regain possession. Was an easy goal for Geelong.

Is this guy serious ! Wow what a disgraceful, disgusting effort tonight. He is as weak as water and I for one hope he never ever pulls on a rfc jumper ever, ever, ever again.

VFL. Thinks he can just stop with the ball and turn invisible. Thanks for the flag butler but hoping you go away now.

Doesn’t bend down to pick the ball up. Rather do little toe pokes to avoid getting hurt
