Welcome to the Tiggers - Daniel Butler

All the smalls are missing Uncle Jack...they have no direction

Certainly would explain why all of them have gone to *smile*.

Butler sucked tonight - definitely needs to be dropped. Not sure if he is a complete write off, but he definitely offers way too little. Zero tackles tonight. Didn't; put his body over the ball. He could have still ended up with 2 goals if not for a close poster on what was a pretty difficult shot at goal. But more than anyone, he needs to go to the reserves and prove he can do something.

We missed the boat on not trading this bloke when is value was high. Dimma needs to give Butler the "Bolton" treatment as it makes no sense at the moment

No impact whatsoever

Soft scared efforts at picking up the ball are doing my head in
And his deer in headlight moments are embarrassing

Needs to be one of the first dropped once players start coming back

I would argue less than zero impact.

A pressure small forward taking a spot and applying ZERO tackles?

that's lead in the saddlebag.

give $hai his spot for the rest of the year

Hard to understand how he can go from 11 tackles one week to absolutely zero tackles the very next week. Seems to lack hunger and determination in the way he plays most of the time.

Jake Aarts is surely worth a go now ahead of Butler. Aarts will be very hungry for the opportunity to play senior football.

True.
Also, I think the focus on tackles and forward pressure is getting away from the basics of what a forward is actually there for - to win the ball and impact the scoreboard.
This “playing your role” mantra can allow players to think they are contributing meaningfully when they are not (Ty Vickery is exhibit A).
Butler gets tackles because he actually allows his more determined opponent to get to the ball first, so he can then apply “forward pressure”.
He is in urgent need of reprogramming via Fly’s academy for incomplete projects.
But at the end of the day I don’t think he is in our best 22.
Dan Butler was incredibly fortunate in timing his purple patch with our glorious last six weeks of 2017.

Butler is sometimes so busy looking in the mirror he forgets where he is

Three times he kicked the ball of the ground instead of putting his head over the ball and picking it up.

Put him up for trade.

"Toe poke" needs to learn that his feet are there to use his pace. Pick the bloody ball up with your hands
Yep it looks great when it works but it should be exception not the rule

0 tackles for the night ! and you got Shai who went back into the vfl had 25 touches 11 tackles and cant get a game !

Back to the Vfl for u !

what about the look away handball to nobody ?

papers stamped Im afraid...

Butler kept Baker out of the side at the beginning of the season and is now keeping Bolton out, they are better than him.

Sharp post. This says a lot in a different manner to what I'm saying, above and beyond your astute evaluation of where Butler is at. The highlighted bit. This is exactly what I have became really annoyed by. We have guys thinking they are playing a key role because they run around a bit, chase a bit, apply some pressure in this way. But sometimes hardly ever catch anyone with an EFFECTIVE tackle. But, most of all, get very little of the ball and/or do very little with disposals when they do. It's a myth that pressure, on it's own, will win a game. See our match v Moggies or Dees V Colonwd. Both losing teams had similar I50s; winning team gets more of the ball though overall, and uses it so much better - conversion! How long since one of our SFs kicked >3 Gs? Papley just kicked 4/5 V Weagles.

We had 13 players who obtained less than 15 Ds last night. I will excuse the younger brigade such as Balta who, at 19 in his first serious AFL year, has had to do a hell of a lot of rucking against much taller, older and more seasoned rucks. But this number includes several flag players. Go have a look. It's not all the injury replacements.

Sid Stack has never had less than 15 yet I think - 1st year kid who wasn't thought worth drafting. Crows only had about 4 <15 if you omit their injured guys who missed lots TOG.
