Welcome to the Tigers Marlion Pickett!

I'm surprised at the Pickett criticism.

I've been a sceptic at times, and a fan intermittently.

But our wings are working. And the wingers are the reason for that. I trust Kmac and Pickett implicitly. Not necessarily with the ball. But in every other sense.

If you're looking for weakness, look forward. We had exactly one capable forward player last night. He was going up against three all night, and still kicked two. And then we had 4 passengers and Rioli who did his job.

That's where the issues are.

were you there the whole game?

Sorry, if you think mar lion was our best player I can’t help you.

I’m a fan, I would love him to continue the fairytale but he had a poor last 3 quarters.

I don’t wNt him dropped but I’d love him to bring GF Marlion to the next game.

I was at the game. Pickett was no where near our best but not our worst. He went missing at times and his obsession with bumping rather than tackling often doesn't come off. I like him and think he's been a valuable member of our team this year but that stupid act of giving away 50 m at a crucial time in the game last night might become his undoing. I don't think Dimma will respond kindly at selection to that.

did I say that? quite a straightforward question I thought.

The trouble watching a game om TV is the cameras follow the ball so we miss off the ball hard work most of the time. If I judged Pickett on the ball I would say he was below average over the game but I have to take Ezy jr's word that his overall game was good

With soldo out ,

I reckon a fit josh caddy , like last year , would be a better option for team balance with his strength in over head marking,

But probably too late for that now

My qu st ion is why Pickett is the only player who is judged more for his off the ball work and tHan on the ball?

The real issue with that judgement is that the 2 Brisbane wings, Berry and McCluggage were instrumental in the win. They clearly had the better of Kmac and Pickett.

I don’t think we have a fit josh caddy, he looks to be still carrying something, and I can’t recall him competing a game in the second half of the year without some form of hampering niggle

Off the ball work is where the most important stuff is done n what has made us soooooo good for the last few years.
Against Brisvegas we had Jaaack n Rioli reasonably effective as forwards but Cholly, Faarts, George n even Dusty were fairly ineffective especially in locking the ball forward n stopping or pressuring Brisvegas escape from our forward half. Once out they easily pin point their wings n half forwards to set up clean forays into their own forward fifty n easy scores.
Our running backs, mids , wings certainly didn't help our cause by butchering way to much delivery into our forwards but by far our biggest issue was not enough players all over the ground doing the constant unrewarded, often unseen pressure running up n down the ground.
It's one of the reasons Grigga n Bash were always among my favourite players back when we were crap to mediocre, they always did a power of running work to either help out or create no matter the game situation.
Pickett, while mature is still a very inexperienced player at AFL level n could probably polish a few things about his game ( who couldn't ) but his work rate is huge n simply doesn't get seen properly watching games on the telly. If people watching the game live claim he was one of our better n most consistent players for the four qtrs I'm good with that. We didn't have many four qtr players during the game n probably the main reason we lost.

Thanks for pointing this out. Sometimes the loss we have clouded our thinking.

I think last year's PF was one ofthe best examples of what you see at the ground. I remember in the first half commenting to my daughter about how well Geelong were setting up on the flanks and wings, all the while blocking any other avenue towards our forward line. You had to be looking at the whole ground to see it.

That said, it is not impossible for this to be shown on TV. Do they not realise that TVs have got a hell of a lot larger since the 1950s? They seem not to know this and that wider shots showing the setup, important in Australian Rules footy, are essential with the way the game is now played.

If Pickett is 2 way running, blocking space, helping down back, then he is doing his job just as he is being instructed to. Yes, needs to fix a few things, but he has played what, 20 games? Still a work in progress but seems to have found a spot on the wing.

I think the amount of games being viewed on mobile devices is influencing the way the game is filmed
