Welcome to the Tigers Marlion Pickett!

For a bloke who appears very skilful his kicking is very disappointing. He too often either scrubs it or over kicks it. The one to George in the last quarter a prime example. He also seems to choose the wrong option too often, at that stage in the game that kick to George should have been going deep inside 50 or hitting up a shorter target. Instead he chose to kick to 60m out on the boundary. Pointless.

I’d make the hard call now and drop him for the semi
Great story and a silky mover at times but not reliable enough in crunch situations with poor kicking and that option to bump rather than tackle undoing a lot of th3 good stuff

I love Marlion but the way he’s going he might just get DROPPED for a grand final.

Ezy jr was at the game.

He understands the game very well

He said pickett was our best over 4 quarters

Junior left at qtr time?

Pickett has 12 touches with 7 critical errors. He burnt numerous forward thrusts with shocking disposal. He looks like a beautiful kick. The results suggest otherwise. After qtr time he was poor.

I can’t remember seeing a more unreliable kick.
In the open, under no pressure, moving smoothly, steadies and then I’ve got literally no idea where the ball is going.
Bit like my golf game.

Your loyalty is admirable but after a blistering start was woeful after quarter time.

Well the boy sat front row, 2nd tier with a birdseye veiw of marlions wing.

Hes not one for hyperbole like the old man.

In his words 'pickett was our best 4qtr effort. The backline was a rabble, with blokes loose out the back constantly and marlion spent all night sprinting full pelt to be deepest defender'

I.e. as mitch robinson alluded to, they somehow countered our wings. 'Crossed over' he said. And Marlion worked like a borrowed horse to fix it.

I didnt see it on the wireless, but ill back EZjr in in anything footy related, every time.

I get that he butchers the odd ball, but so does dusty.

I dont get how hes a whipping man. I really dont.

And ive never got the stars obsession. And ive never got why the stats obsessed dont want to trade dusty and sheds for lachie neale

That was my issue with that as well. I can deal with the skill error of kicking it out on the full, my concern was that he had a player on the overlap if Pickett had drawn the man its an easy handball out wide to the overlap which he burnt, to then kick the ball into the pocket 35-40m out. Its a very low % chance at scoring. Most concerning to me was that was the worst option he could have taken there.

He is not a whipping boy at all. He is a good, but not great player with some deficiencies and is in the bottom 6 . Thus his spot is under pressure - although Dimma may have commiteed to him and Kmac for the wings for rest of the year regardless.

So when are you taking him for his eye test?

EDIT just kiddin' but wasn't Marlion's best game from what I could see on the internetz

Id like to throw a question to the floor ...

Can someone who attended the game provide more insight into marlions game?

I was very surprised myself by ezj's report.

On the wireless i though his first quarter was scintillating, then he went quiet.

The odd mongrel kick doesnt concern me. Its his flaw. Every player has them.

Its clear we got outcoached, and robinson let it out of the bag that the wings were strategically crucial.

Just asked ezj for his votes, and he reaffirmed

5 pickett
4 graham
3 vlastuin
2 dion
1 dusty

I can assure you, this kid understands footy and had the best seat in the house.

I'll back jnr. in here eZyT

My brother is a Lion's member (I know, how the f##k does that happen right?) and he rang me this morning for a bit of gloat.

He was at the game last night and one of his observations was that Pickett's work rate off the ball was huge. For a bloke that my brother thought had no tank, he reckoned Marlion tried all night.

Yes, my brother should know nothing about footy being a Lion's man but still......

i thought he was good. seemed to go hard most of the game.
his kicking is interesting, the ball seems to travel a long way off a mellow style. like he's Mr Superboot.
maybe he just needs to back it off a smidge ?
