Welcome to the Tigers Marlion Pickett!

talk us through it JB?

he wasn't jerking off Dusty I hope?
flat footed non goal side at the stoppages at Ports half forward and didn't move when his opponent took off - opponent kicked goals. Bit rough to cherry pick thoes perhaps though

dont recall it. was it wines waltzing through unhindered?

yeah, ports workmate made a few blokes look a bit *smile*.

I kept saying to my mate

'they've spent their load, we've absorbed their best punch, they cant maintain this'

but they just kept with more load and punches and maintenance.

I was pretty impressed in the cool light of day.

However, I reckon Cats will almost certainly beat them on the Gabba next week.

Port played their GF in July (Covid adjusted)

That might all be true but i think a few are writing Port off based on past history and the fact it is hard to accept there is a new challenger to our throne. In the cool light of day i think the result did flatter us.

I think in Adelaide in July, with Dixon and Ladhams fit, they are a bit scary.

But out of Adelaide, post Dixons annual breakdown,

im not afraid.

they played grand final style footy, and fully deserved to win.

but we were in front at 3/4 time with a best 16

I agree. One way to beat the Tigers is with quick accurate handball. It's a high risk plan that can backfire if you're too slow or miss your targets but if it works it just totally cuts through like a knife. I was quite amazed how well Port were handballing quickly and to position. They couldn't sustain it the whole game but when they did and added their pressure game we had no answer.

Bearing in min d he has a brood of kids back home, hub life is likely taking a bigger toll on him than most.

It may be an excuse, but sometimes we have to remember these guys are human and have other things in life besides footy.

Don't get me wrong, i've been as frustrated as anyone with some of his decison making and missing targers considering his unquestionable skills.

But just saying

With all fit? Sheesh I don't see it.

yep.

Dusty, Cotchy, Grimes, Vlastuin, JR, Tom, Nank, Sheds, Dion, Marlion.

probably fighting with $hai for 10th MIP in my mind.

(im sure ill have forgotten a doozy edit - just realised Lambo was the one I missed, like the entire football world)

not talking about potential, talking about what they bring to the 2020 campaign.

Marlion is almost unprecedentedly tough and selfless IMO.

he didnt have a great arvo yesterday, but it was a tough day to play.

He was last picked in our Grand Final team. The fringe of our best 22 is where he sits about now.

Agree. I don't see him holding his spot with Cotch and Prestia (and Edwards) in the side. Round 6 was when he was picked again to play the week that Prestia & Cotch went out.

If Marlion Pickett is our 23rd man,

we will win the next 3 premierships

I touched on this during the game but on all the footy stuff i have watched not on replay of his mark. Likely because there is no accompanying exciting commentary which Brayshaw at least gave to Ah Chee's mark.

and he did it twice in a minute.

It’s not physical improvement for me TL , though been in an AFL system for a couple of years would no doubt help, my thoughts on improvement come from him adapting to the tempo of the AFL and the regiment of AFL life .

I can’t remember a player where I’m so fence sitting on, could be very very good or meh in the AFL

That's about where I see it too, although If he gets consistency in his performance he will be very valuable. It's a pretty difficult year for all let alone a guy with 1 game under his belt coming into it. We have to give him time.

Usually very balanced but got your Marlion glasses glued on tight with this one.
In front of Baker, Astbury, Short, Houli, and equal with Shai? Can’t be based on anything you have seen this year.

Excluding Bachar, how are those other blokes games/ norm smith votes ratios?

I cant fathom how people cant see how *smile* good marlion pickett is.

Hes played, what 10 games and probably 4 have been sublime.

Who does that?

By what criteria is marlion being marked? Against Dusty?

I reckon i'd be amongst a tiny group of tiger supporters who have seen 50% of marlions career games live. He does absolutely shitloads of stuff you dont see on TV. Way more than most blokes (except maybe kmac, lambo?)

I agree. The inside 50s and dominance at clearances told the story. They also beat us up on scoring from turnovers where we usually do that to other sides. The umps gave us two goals as well, and our goals were manufactured through willpower and grunt. Port have a good side this year and might go far.

Very flattering final scoreline - our defence did well given the amount of ball they had to deal with, and our forwards were at least very efficient.

Apart from ladder position, this result doesn't worry me too much. Was always a big ask and it shows our second string midfield can't do the job against a strong side. We need Cotch back ASAP, Nank would be nice too. Prestia won't be back for a while. Houli will help somewhat. All else equal I reckon we could still beat Port in Qld IF we have some of our missing A-Graders back.

So you are basing it on his performance in the G.F? Should have been clearer.
I thought you were basing it on first players picked and importance to the team. In that criteria, all names I mention get picked before him.
I must have missed his sublime games this year. I was too busy focussing on Shai’s

No basing it on order of importance in winning the 2020 premiership

The 3 previous games, the ones where Dusty has made hus brownlow move,

Marlion hits dustys opponent every chance he gets. And he blocks for him constantly. And he tags. And he kicks goals, takes contested marks, puts people in space, runs all day.

The list goes on and on. I like shorty, but better/more important than Marlion?

Really?
