Welcome to the Tigers Marlion Pickett!

Thought he was poor with the exception of a few passages including the mark. I’m worried we simply have an outside WAFL player who can’t play with consistent AFL intensity. For a 28 year old mature recruit, he’s got to be consistently better than he’s been this year. Last year’s downhill skiing debut in the GF is history now. He’s got to get better quickly or really we should be trying others.

8 possessions. Nowhere near enough playing wing/midfield. Needs to lift or he'll be out quick smart. May not even get a chance next week.

He does some really good stuff then goes and hides.
If you’re in his area he will pressure and hurt you but if the ball moves away, the camping chairs come out.
Several times yesterday, he stood back and watched his opponent run off him and he was camped and refusing to move.
He won’t last long in my opinion, he isnt a kelly that runs all day.

What did Castagna do?

What did Rioli do?

What did Lynch do?

What did Caddy do?

What did Broad do?

What did Soldo do?

What did Lambert do?

What did Riewoldt do?

What did Stack do?

What did Baker do?

Lets single out Pickett because he did'nt play like he did in the Grand Final... :bash

Refer to other threads for answer those questions.

Yesterday's game had more grand final intensity than the 2019 GF. Pickett has to show he can deliver week to week in the grind of mid season not just live off a fairytale debut.

I continue to be unsure if I think he’ll play 100 games for the Tiges or won’t make the grade, some things he does are sublime , he hurts the opposition physically , but he also disappears for long periods , everything should improve the more he plays , however imho he has to start to impact more , I’m not sure how much impact his direct opponent is having

He was poor in real finals intensity, his first game of this style (last year's GF had no finals intensity by our opponents). Personally I think he's a bit too slow physically and in mind making decisions. Needs to get more consistency in his game. I'm not sure he's a starter when Prestia and Edwards and Cotchin are back.

Everything should improve for a young player as they grow stronger physically but is this Pickett's best? He's 28, 29 next Jan. Most players have past their peak and on the down performance wise by this stage.

It’s not physical improvement for me TL , though been in an AFL system for a couple of years would no doubt help, my thoughts on improvement come from him adapting to the tempo of the AFL and the regiment of AFL life .

I can’t remember a player where I’m so fence sitting on, could be very very good or meh in the AFL

That's sort of my point. Any advantages in adjusting to AFL tempo is offset by naturally declining output due to age. Is this then the best we'll get? Have there been any players starting so late become solid midfielders? Can't think of any off the top of my head.

Cotchin, Dusty, Lambert, Prestia are all of similar age. At some stage others of our younger brigade will get a good go in the midfield. Do any of the above players get dropped before Pickett? For me Pickett needs to improve consistency or I can't see the logic in keeping him in light of our current list makeup. 11 disposals a game, just 7 effective doesn't cut it in the midfield.

Yeah you're right, he's much better and has a well earnt Premiership Medal to prove it.

When they recruited Marlion they were comparing him to Kelly.
Better than Kelly? Not a shade
Happy to have a logical conversation.
A medallion has nothing to do with the comparison

I’ve said it previously - you are going alright when Pickett is your last picked - cream on top type player... Right now that’s not the case.

Agreed. If Pickett is in our bottom 6, and all 22 are playing their role, we'll be fine.

He wasn't recruited to be the next Kelly ... or Cotchin. If he's a very good B-grader with X-factor, maybe that's where our expectations should lie.

At present, we're hoping for a contribution like we'd get from Edwards or Prestia.

He's part of the hamburger – just wait until all the troops are back; the oppo will have used all their best mids/defenders on our A-listers, and Pickett will be a difficult match-up.

Exactly my point! EVERYONE needs to show they can deliver week to week in the grind of mid season. WE were slaughtered yesterday even some of our senior players like Lambert, Lynch and Jack, not just Pickett.

And I just don't get the GF argument? Everyone saying he is living off his fairytale debut or 'dining out' on it. Thats the sort of *smile* an disinterested auntie makes up ... or a nuff nuff.
