Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

Interesting comparison between the two. Hugo's kicking is unreliable. How much of that is inexperience (rushing, indecision) and how much is it a young player in a demanding athletic role fatiguing?

its very hard to hit a target when youre rooted

I would say a bit of both. But on the occasions he gets it both right he looks every bit a damaging player.

You have no concept of reality if you think a player like Hopper gets traded without a first round pick included. And please don’t mention salary dump because that’s just a fans way of hoping we get a player for nothing.

Put it this way would you want Richmond to trade Prestia who is entering his prime for Pick 31 and a fringe player?
Prestia was a far more accomplished player than Hopper is right now.

Smoking it is not a question of simply a first.
I agree both are worth it.
It is a question of the value of the first.
I am against the use of a first when you don’t know and can’t reasonably anticipate its value.
I am in favour of considering other alternatives, which I am hopeful is going on right now. That includes paying the salary of our departing player, which due to retirements etc, we are currently able to cover.

Not the same but It has happened in the past. In fact I am aware that on one occasion we actually traded a player and agreed to pay his salary at its then current level, for the rest of his career.
After his first contract came to an end he was re contracted for a further two years at his new club and Punt Road again picked up the tab.

I always liked KMac as a player. Not sold on Hugo though. Marlion better than both.
Flappers is good.
He was really good this year.
Pickett was our best player in the 1st half of the year and he tapered in the back end of the year.
Agree on Ralphsmith, not convinced he is our next winger

Marlion's been criticised for butchering the ball too.
Early days yes, better this year unless trying to be too team oriented. Love the Fish and Grover. Two really hard gut running wingmen. Regarding Grover, I do not think I have ever seen him lose a one on one contest. Always wins or halves at worst.

Both Marlion & KMac have a bit of C in them too. It's not just the hard running. They are very tough, physical lads.

It is a salary cap issue when next year Hoppers managers asks for $900k a Year to stay at gws. When they can’t match it he walks to the psd and they get nothing
True Tommy, GWS know that next year Hopper would walk and not accept the Giants offer.

It's not psd but free agency. And the,ll likely get one top ten pick as compo.

So to gws their options are
1. Trade now for 1st round pick plus player
2. Hold and get a FA compo next year

The salary dump idea isn't accurate as Sin pointed out. It's more as you said that the Giants know they can't pay for him after next year

Disagree, it is a salary dump issue.

They have one pool. There is just so much the club is legally permitted to spend.
The club has made the decision that in the interests of keeping within their TPP limit, one of the players they will not keep after next season is Hopper.

He is clearly best 22 but they are getting rid of him now to save his salary.

They are dumping salary, because they are forced to pull back on the number of high salaries they are committed to and they consider Hopper’s is better spent elsewhere.

Inclined to agree, De Boer has retired, Taranto and Hill have been traded, there's well over a million off the books for 2023.

How can you say this with such confidence? They have said several times they want to keep Hopper. As a long time member I have no idea how Richmond are running things and yet you are proclaiming to be an expert on another club. I am in awe of you !

If GWS is shedding 4-5 players for salary cap reasons then they were surely well over the cap this season. Taranto, hopper, bruin, Whitfield and Haynes = serious salary cap issues. Why are they not being investigated?
GC also "cap dumping" with Bowes & the media are dead silent on the issue. It really is the elephant in the room.

He will be a free agent and they will lose him. We will offer him 6 years at $700-$750 and they will get a 1st rounder which will probably be a pick around 5-8. That’s what they will be expecting. There is zero chance he goes to the psd.
The giants know they will lose Hopper next year anyway
