Momentai, I agree. I'm tired of the thoughtless bleating about first round picks. Apart from the fact you'd find that we'd probably done no worse than other clubs around our picks, the subjectiveness of some criticism is absolutely hogwash.
Apparently Gibcus is a dud. D Rioli, Dud.
Yep, we've had some misses - Ben Lennon and Corey Ellis for example, but Thompson Dow?
At pick 21 can you even say he's a first rounder? There's only 18 teams. In my mind first round finishes after pick 18.
Are Dylan Williams, Harry Schoenberg or Jackson Mead setting the world on fire? I know Deven Robertson isn't. Will Gould? It's just pissing and moaning with no context and no facts.
We’ve got a number of high picks who have succeeded and been part of finals. We do seem to have a higher number of rookie/PSD picks who have also made it. I’d say our ‘failures’ with highly rated picks is about average. The poster who promotes the ‘we can’t use decent picks’ philosophy likes to use hindsight to do the drafting.

Who is they? Hopper is worth a first round pick. Offering anything on top of that is overs, particularly as we gave 12 and 19 for Taranto. If we offered Brown, it'd be just Brown. If we offered Soldo, it's probably with a 2nd round pick.
Can we even offer Brown? Draftee only played one year. Didn’t think you could trade them unless they’d expressed an interest in leaving.

I was listening to Mcartney when he was talking about hopper. It didn't give me much confidence it gets done tbh. Sounds like it will be more than Taranto. We are over a barrel and won't leave hopper hanging and nor should we but GWS salary dump seems to be very different to pies and suns for a reason i'm not sure i understand. Maybe Hopper not a salary dump after all with some of the other moves?

It’s just posturing. Trying to maximise their return. It’ll get done. Doubt they want a player given the number of picks they have.

Yeah you can trade them. The consent thing is with all trades though. AFLPA would never allow non consent in-contract trading

I think they owe us some change in the Taranto deal - and GWS can’t look like they gave away hopper for nothing or their supporters would spit. Luckily they don’t have any.

Suspect next years first and a pick swap. They need Hopper off the books and he wants to come to us.

It’ll get done Park Slope. 110%.

Hopper is a free agent next year. If GWS don’t deal with us fairly right now, they’ll lose their leverage next year when he goes and they’ll receive much less.

Now get over to Buttermilk on 5th avenue, grab a beer, and enjoy the Niners reaming of the Rams.

Bloody internet was playing up, hence duplication. They suggesting Brown now?

So we give them Brown, (that's their 1st round pick ;) seeing Brown was a 1st rounder last year plus a year of tiger development), throw in next year's 2nd rounder or this year's pick 30, we keep next year's 1st , deal done.

I agree wait until next year....they have no strength in negotiations.

Reckon it will be Soldo & next year's first (Hopefully 18).
If it was going to be next years 1st I think it would have already happened and we would still have 19.
(Blair would probably prefer to have such bad news out of the way).
The fact our future 1st is still in our hands suggests that he is continuing to resist pressure to trade it.
Suspect now that the deal will be done possibly for two of Castagna, Collier-Dawkins or Soldo with punt road picking up the bill for next season, at least.

GWS need players who are still developing and who will stay.

Caesar, you've probably seen more of Brown than most of us. What are your thoughts on him? How does he project from his 1st year? Potential superstar? Good player? Dud?

Edmund reporting on SEN that F1 and Pick 31 won’t be enough for Hopper. Edmund saying GWS want a pick and player

GWS have done well out of the Taranto deal.
What is a reasonable deal for both clubs in regards to Hopper? Deledio, a better credentialed player had a year to go on his contract when he went to GWS on a 3 year deal, for a 1st round pick and a future 3rd.
GWS have cap issues, they may not be in a position, or may not want to pay any of Hoppers contract like we did for Deledio. With that in mind, and reminding them that we paid some of Lids contract, we should be able to negotiate a reasonable deal by saying we'll take the burden of Hoppers contract off you.
GWS should be happy with a future 1st round pick and nothing more. I don't really want to give it up, but we get to keep Soldo and still have our 2nd and 3rd round future picks.
