Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

What was the original knee injury? It seems there was an issue with the surgery that just needed a clean out rather than it being a second injury.

Think it was a combination of the previous surgery not taking and a second separate injury to the same knee. Both he and Taranto had reasonably solid ends to the season so should be right to go for preseason

Hopper, 25, enjoyed an outstanding season last year that saw him short-listed for All-Australian honours but hasn’t played since round 1 after swelling, pain and discomfort persisted from off-season knee surgery.

Subsequent scans revealed a new injury that required a further operation, and the star on-baller went under the knife again in late March.

Missed 15 weeks after the initial knee surgery. Wasn't just a 'clean out'.

I'm not against the trade but my eyes are open.

5 games from a healthy Hopper is better then what we have got.
We know too many people at GWS for them to sell us a Yarran.
Plus Geelong was keen as mustard to get Hopper, I know that dosent count for much because they go after anyone with a heart beat.
I'm more concerned that our backline needs a marking/ intercepter. I hope they give the kid from Port or Frankston a go.
Apprantly really good kids

I get the feeling GWS want a player going to them in the Hopper deal.

It is not really our style but the reality is that time is on our side with the deal. If they need him off the books then it would make sense for them to get the deal done as soon as possible so they don't get backed into a corner

We played hardball with #lolnorf over CCJ and that’s worked well for us.

I have no issue with the Taranto trade; I think we have done well and we will probably ultimately judge the overall trade for Taranto and Hopper at the conclusion of the trade period. What is a little confusing at the moment is all the picks that GWS have - they can't possibly use all of them with maybe 2-3 more to come from Hopper and Bruhn trades. (3-12-19-21-43-57-59 & F2). Are they making a play for a Brisbane player - (15,34,45) Lions need at least 3 in top 25 to get Ashcroft and Fletcher FS. Alternatively are we going to get back some picks for the Hopper trade or is the Hopper trade going to involve player(s)? Kingsley probably has a couple of tigers on his shopping list?

The issue oldie for me and my health I can't bare another 5yrs of poor 1st rounders.
We have given it a crack, it's tome to off load them and select what we need.
What's to say that pick 12 & 19 this year were Conca or Vickery types.
Even the experts say it's a really hard draft to pick from.
*smile* it, let's stick what we are kings at Rookie and preseason selections.
Really Zipper this is such nonsense.
On this approach you would cut us off from the games best rated players because you have no confidence in (Blair’s) ability to make a properly considered choice.
On a personal level, on this basis you would never try anything new, or believe that life can be anything but a pain in the arse.

In any negotiation you have to be prepared to walk away if the price is too high.

GWS know we won’t do that because we have committed to Hopper so by default they hold the upper hand in negotiations.

Blair will have a plan b and c. If hopper doesn’t work out we will have other options.

What we have done is shown some good faith to pay a generous price on Taranto to show we’re not f’ing around and want to get the hopper deal done. GWS would be thankful they’re dealing with a heavy hitter that knows what it’s doing

Yeah but next time a club is trading a player, we'll be the first club they'll want to deal with.

This goodwill reputation will benefit us for 10+ years

It’s not an absolute commitment but a commitment to do our best within reason.
