Welcome to the Tigers - Daniel Rioli

Lost all repeat efforts defensively.

Looks exhausted. Still a massively exciting project.

Nope 5th or 6th after tomorrow's games and just one game ahead of ninth.

Could still hold 4th. North will be Freo (doesn't impact us), if Wet Choke hold on to their flat track bully names and beat Port by a small margin then they will go level on points but lower % and Carlton IMO could beat Melbourne with their 3 best mids out of the team.

Rioli does look like he needs a break ... only thing is who in the VFL team replaces him? Bolton? Moore?
Our depth is incredibly shallow.

It doesn't really matter if we cling on to a top 4 position or not at the end of this round. The way we played tonight we'd be hard pressed to win another game.

Let's hope it was just a bad night and the boys can bounce back quickly

Yes we could still be 4 th but most likely 6th. Our percentage is now lower than 9 th placed Essendon.

Give him Jade Gresham's tape from last night and challenge him to lift.

I would also be signing a new contract quick smart. Will be devaluing his contract value over the last month.

Not sure about that, Dan's already shown his wares. Pretty obvious he's a young player who's cooked.

Been cooked for 10 weeks Baron. Shown little and the selection committee led by the esteemed Dimma should be held accountable!

Oh yeah selection will be looked at no doubt.

I was saying his value wouldn't be deteriorating IMO. We know the ceiling and it's damn high.

Pay is balanced between ceiling and output, not ceiling alone.

He's a second year player, struggling with workload right now. Hopefully gets managed for a week or two. He'll be a gun yet.

I think he's struggling with the change of role. Its been evident that since we added more and more smalls he has been pushed further up the ground.

In Rd 8 against Freo, we were playing Rioli, George and Butler in the forward line along with Elton. Elton is now out replaced by Shai / Stengle but we have also added Lloyd. Both Lloyd and Rioli playing way higher up the ground than Rioli was in the 1st week.

As a comparison Rioli's stats from the first 8 rounds and then rounds 9-15. Reckon we have gone too far on the smalls, and we should look to get Dan back towards the F50 a bit more.

Rds 1-8 Rds 9-15
Kicks 5.5 5.1
Handballs 5.5 4.0
Disposals 11.0 9.1
Contested Possessions 5.1 3.4
Uncontested Possessions 6.3 6.3
Disposal Efficiency 73.9% 60.9%
Clangers 2.4 1.7

Marks 3.1 2.4
Contested Marks 0.5 0.1

Goals 1.4 0.3
Behinds 0.5 0.9
Goal Assists 0.5 0.1

Tackles 2.9 3.0
Inside 50's 2.3 2.0
Marks I50 1.1 0.6
Clearances 0.5 0.4
rebound 50's - 0.3
1% 1.5 1.4
Bounces 0.4 0.4
Time on ground 83.8 81.0

Moved up the ground to allow another small onto the ground and lower disposals, lower CP (weirdly lower CP yet much lower DE% too), lower goals, goal assists, inside 50's, marks inside 50 and also lower TOG indicating that the running may be too much for him. Reckon if he isn't given a rest we need to get a bit better team balance. If Vlastuin is back, need to take out Lloyd and Stengle and bring in a tall (maybe Moore) and Vlastuin and play Vlastuin where Kmac plays and play Kmac more in the middle. Reckon the balance of that team is much much better.

Does not get enough ball period. Not doing enough. Must work harder.

Won't get dropped as he lives with the coach.

Yes, you are right, Tiggy, but Rioli needs a break. He's lost his freshness and resolve. Seems that the weight of the game style has dragged him down.
Rioli is a very special player, make no bones about it, yet he is still developing and maturing and in need of some guidance and respite. A match or two in the VFL (maybe even a week off, "managed") might help him regain his zest.

Hard to disagree with the above.
