Welcome to the Tigers - Daniel Rioli

Where do these picks actually end up? Seems picks beyond about 10 are going out by at least 2 or 3 and the further you go the more the pick falls.

So when GC say pick 6 and 20(?) wouldn't it really be 6 and about 25?

I don't really follow the trade and draft that closely, but we are talking about a 3 time premiership player and current club B&F. They have to pay, or the Rioli family stays together at Punt Rd.

They are close to getting a player capable of lifting them to play in a finals series. I’d be very surprised if they don’t get it done tomorrow.

Of course they will. Rioli 27 into 28 and relies on burst speed. Won’t be a cliff but the time is now.
Exactly. 27/28 is the perfect age to trade out a player if you're going to do it. The value usually starts to slide significantly after that point.
Capitalise whilst they're at the top of the bell curve & if you can't then keep them. Not just this season, Daniel has been playing great footy at HB for 3 years now.
He's at the peak of his powers but for how long? He wants out & I want to see this trade done given our ladder position.

I’m not on top of all the permutations of this trade but why aren’t we going for 2 firsts for this contracted, triple premiership, b&f winner, GC first this year and next year?

The fact that we are doing that is the reason it hasn’t been done is my understanding.

I assume we are tt

My guess is 6 is locked in in the deal , next part of the deal will come down to how much we pay of his new deal , no we should be really helping them out re coin , however at the end of the day most important thing for us atm is high draft picks and if we pay a little more for a pick so be it . I’m in the minority I think 6 on its own is a great deal for DRioli , considering he’s age and those old ankles that served him well this year.

That’s a far too reasonable assessment. In my opinion its time for the RFC to be totally unreasonable and act like *smile* for once. They want him. We have him under a long term contract. Pay up or no deal. They will cave.

Because of expected early academy selections Gold Coast need all the picks they can in 2025. They will value 2025 picks more than almost any club. They won't be trading anything out of that draft.

How about Rioli and our F2 in 2025 for 6,13 and 29?

We could surely trade back into 2025 with the hand we would have.

They wont give us that much Sin.

Reckon drop the 13 and add in 23 would be a great result for us.

Oh boy, Cornes making outrageous unsubstantiated claims about how loose Rioli is and almost claiming he plays irresponsibly.

He knows he can say anything inflammatory, with no supporting evidence and generate outrage, interest etc.

Broadcasters are treading a fineline supporting this behaviour. I stopped listening to SEN for a couple of years because they were promoting more sensational type broadcasting rather than real discussion, not sure why I thought they had changed. I enjoy listening to footy and sports talk but not like this.

Back to podcasts.

Corne has been going on an anti Richmond rant all morning. He's imploring GC to not trade pick 6, Houston is better, AFL must step in, Richmond are in massive trouble blah blah blah.

And he still hasn't apologised for saying that Blair Hartley hasn't fronted the media and getting stuck into him about it, when he fronted the media on Monday.

If it's 6 & 20-something throw in Sam Clohessy and it's a deal!

Leysy's advice:

If you're getting frustrated by the media this week. Step away. Ignore it. Don't fuel it and don't let it fuel you.

Nothing is going to get done this week anyhow, so you're not missing anything.
