Welcome to the Tigers - Connor Menadue

He finished 7th in the VFL B&F, ahead of Lloyd and Baker. Regular VFL watchers know why he was retained.

What's his best position spook? With a few more kg's could he play midfield?

How bad is he when even north dont look at him.
7th in the vfl, sign him up for another 12 years.
Joins Lennon as a big fat fail

Potentially wing, tigerman, but I think half-back is his best spot. I won't get much support for this other than from Gyps, but if he hadn't had a disrupted pre-season Menadue would have had first shot at the running back role that ended up going to Short. He came into the season underdone, and it is very hard to catch up. He would burn for a half then fade away, especially early in the year. He still ended up in the best six 8 times in 14 games, of a team that finished top.

He was quite consistent at VFL level. After April 28, when he was named our best player with 18 disposals against Werribee, only once did he drop under 20 touches, with 16 in the finals loss to Williamstown. His other games were 22, 20, 23, 26, 21, 25, 25, 26. And he's a line-breaker, he has the pace and the step to make 100-metre plays.

I like him better than Short. He's a lot quicker, much better overhead (that side of his game really came on this year), and better in the contest. He averaged 12 disposals in the AFL this year, but that was playing half-forward/wing. Short got 20 a game but 14 of those were put on a platter for him.

A good pre-season, a few more kgs, and I see him along with Bolton and Balta as the ones who can really improve us internally.

A good rebuttal of all the knockers. No wonder we get so little value for our off-loaded players if our own just run them down so harshly. In contrast to Colonwood who get way overs.

You've obviously seen a lot more of him than I have Spook so appreciate your point of view. But I really don't like what I've seen of him at AFL level. A player like him should be a lot further advanced than he is after 4 years in the system. At AFL level he does not seem to relish the contest. He didn't have great impact in any of his games form what I recall this year and he was outright horrible against the Saints and Cats late in the season. He had 10 touches against the Saints in a game where the opposition was uncompetitive; if you can't fill your boots in a game like that when can you? And against Geelong he was a complete liability; everything he touched turned to *smile* and he was like an extra player for Geelong when he was on the ground.

Reckon he is very lucky to be still on the list. Good luck to him. Let's hope he justifies the faith that the club has shown in him.

Yeah, he was pretty bad against the cats. Awareness wasn't there and decision making was too slow or just wrong.

Hoping his mind speed can catch up with his physical speed.

A 'glass half full' player in ol' claw terms. Maybe 60% full. Although at 187 and 22 yrs old it's worth seeing if that can get to 80%.

Yep there's no argument about him at VFL level, he has been excellent. Problem has been his transitioning into AFL. Just looks extremely timid and maybe went backwards a bit this year. Hopefully it is missing pre-season that caught up with him. Happy to give him another year to see if he can improve to the level required.

Spook. I've mentioned my opinion on his so called speed a couple of times but wanted to reiterate that there is no point in having speed, if you don't use it. Short much quicker off the mark which is the most important speed in football.
Menedue seems to need to wind up. In the GF sprint, he was one of the last out of the blocks. That can be rectified but needs to see someone to learn to switch on.
Nathan Foley didn't get drafted originally because they thought he was too slow! Went to a running coach ( who also worked with Houli, Shane Crawford and Mal Brown's son ) who tested him and was astounded how fast he actually was. Then went to work teaching Nathan how to explode off the mark. Problem solved.
But until Menedue learns to use his pace, he should not be referred to as quick.

Thanks spook.
I like him him too, he's got pace, is good overhead and is a good kick. That's why he's still on the list, I hope he has a good preseason because he needs to show a bit more next season otherwise he's on shaky ground.

Would never consider a bloke like Grigga quick or explosive, but he had a massive engine in his prime. Would just roam up n down a wing creating overlap n a loose target for the team. KMac is probably fairly similar. New rules with starting positions at centre bounces might just bring the running wing man back into vogue, there's been some absolute rippers over the years. Grigga's obviously fading so there's a glaring vacancy coming up soon. Mena's bloody quick, he just needs a couple of steps to get the lacka band wound up to full tension. Should be bloody perfect, just needs to pull the finger out next year n give Grigga a nudge out of the way.

As we have seen with Corey Ellis, it's a massive step up. Not all players are capable at AFL level.
I've seen plenty of both of those guys at VFL level & they look like guns, at VFL level.
AFL? Nup.

So right. The whole game goes up several gears in AFL and too many of our young like Menadue are rabbits in the headlights in the big league. I reckon it is a psychological problem

Great to hear, Tooheys. I don't think it was about pennies, other than those he'd spent by half time by being underdone last year.

I'd have him at the front of the queue ahead of a few others for JLT one on that performance today spook.

Cheers, mate. He looks like he's filled out a bit more again. It's been a slow process but starting at 188/68 he was always going to take a few years. I've been an outspoken supporter but I really believe he will improve our side.

Great to hear guys always rated him he needs just believe in his himself and abilities and will be very handy for us.

IMO, he's first on the chopping block in our team so hopefully we really do see a big improvement.
