Welcome to Richmond - Jayden Short

For an "elite" kick he continually bombs long to his team mates disadvantage.
Look before you bounce Shorty.
It’s not a new thing. He’s done it for years. If we’re not going to drop him try him forward. He’s got pace and a long kick.

Reckon you were and are way off on Short. He has played the same ineffective game all year. Nothing to do wiith coaching, a 150 plus game player does not need coaching. What Short is missing is the 7 other guns covering for him making him look good. Not hard to look OK when you have the likes of Rance/Astbury/Grimes/Vlastuin/Broad/Houli/Balta/Baker surrounding you. He is borderline embarrasing in 2024.

Being exposed for the average footballer he is.
He got 6SI in R13, Miles. All his important numbers were double his average. That's improvement.

Short doesn't have to stat pad. He can lower his eyes. He can use the ball quickly. He doesn't have to overcook it. And he can work to dangerous positions. It's just that usually he doesn't. And for much of his career his poor values have been encouraged in not being checked.

He didn't back his improved game up. He returned to his old ways. It's over to Yze here. Yze is not the one who gives Short Happy Meals for farting. That was Dogwick.

Yze has to make a player of Short. Or punt him.

For a comparison look at the way Fly has handled Noble. Fly dropped Noble for a GF. Brutal. Did Noble improve this year? Plays tighter. Looks before he kicks. In the main. Improved.

well put on some glasses because the eyes are letting you down.Given the fact that Short got votes for the game perhaps you might suggest they were asleep also.
Cannot vouch for those giving votes they clearly are not watching either. They clearly are not seeing the outcomes of the vast majority of his touches.

He is horrible and a liability. Has to be the most over rated kick of the ball in the entire comp. Gets the ball 25 times and almost nothing comes from it. He takes short steps pardon the pun. He won't go when it is his turn, Very poor defensively and is a panic merchant.
Yet he is in the leadership group what does that say about those giving him votes.

We are second last on the ladder this bloke has been horrible and yet those in charge have their blinkers on.

Play Smiffy or Trezise at least they will go hard and we won't have to cringe every time shortsteps pulls out or panic bombs the ball down the line.

Dyer'ere, I've seen Short give off passes and lower his eyes, but it is only very occasionally. He definitely needs coaching to stop banging it down the ground to a contest where the opposition players have a 6" height advantage on our players. It rarely works and Short doesn't seem to learn from this.

As usual a much more considered view than mine!

Never really considered that Short has never been coached to lower his eyes, but in hindsight our gameplan never demanded it. Get it long, inside 50 and keep it there does lend itself to Short thumping it long as often as he could. And I am sure like a long driver in golf, Short likes to admire his own handiwork.

Short to go short, let's see what transpires.

I’ve been known to shout at the tv ‘Don’t give it to Short!’ As soon as he gets the ball I prepare for the inevitable turn over.

Short had it around the Centre back position had 3 loose tigers 30 to 40 metres in front of him forward. What did he do kicked it straight to an opponent 30 metres away. Get him out of the backline ffs. Sit him as 23rd man or try as a forward flanker who runs and leads everywhere only forward. Otherwise VFL material

Certainly been far from his best , intresting trade option as he’d demand a good pick or maybe a good player looking for a change . Along with Broad who has also been talked about been traded , can be risky trading one of the most popular players at the club .

Not sure why the MC haven’t tried Short more up the ground or even forward , we have younger options down back and are limited in the talent department forward .

Why why cant we play him in the forward line were he 1st started his career. Gives nothing defensively.

Has got good hands and loves to kick a goal surly he is a better option then Tyler & Ryan M ?

The only one !!!! are you reading this thread.
Plenty are seeing him for what he is. Others well who knows why they need to ignore the obvious.

I think people have talked him up so much they just cannot be seen to be so wrong.

Everyone on this thread has said his form has been shizen for most of the season but his last few games have been much better. Not perfect, much better. This is supported by coaches votes and media bests.

I can't think of anyone who claims he's in JDM form.

Unless Hardwick is looking for a reunion, we would do well to get a pie, coke, and a bag of training footies for him.

Any club looking beyond SuperCoach stats and actually watching tape on Short aren’t going to be offering anything of value to bring him in.

Trade as he lacks leadership and is a poor role model to our kids with his lazy efforts to meet contests and then tackle. Panic and rushed kicks bc he doesn't want to take a bump and then they hit opposition players. Bye please come trade time for a late second i hope.

the only difference this week and last week to the rest of the season is he had a couple more meaningless disposals.

IMO he is now taking games off promising younger players. Opinions Like bum cracks is we all have one.

In the back half of the season I would like to see some other players in his role & see how they go.

Interesting idea, Olds. If we bring in a tallish role back like say Trezise to play #4 that frees Brown to play as a designated kicker, sagger, part-time mop. It could be that we have to develop Brown's defensive game and it's not viable to move him yet. (He's got work to do there.) But if we think we can get Brown right defensively 1v1 air and ground we should definitely look at this IMO. If it won't hurt his development.

Brown tested about 3.0/20m IIRC. But when he lets down (rare) he burns. I've been surprised. Short is pretty brisk. He uses his burst to get to position to receive. He's actually good at this. But Brown is equipped physically for the role.

The other bloke we might try here is Smith. He's not as advanced as Brown but has a future IMO.
