Welcome to Richmond Chris Yarran

Secondly, the Yarran trade was just about the final deal of the week, we could have held firm on a more reasonable exchange or alternatively, pulled the pin altogether and then pursued him next year. Given Carlton were acting like spoiled brats the whole time this would have been just desserts.

I remember being really proud at the time because Richmond got the deal done with its round 2 pick and didn't cave in and give Carlton our first pick that Silvani was demanding.
Not sure when the next years second rounder was added.
Agree, we paid overs, we had position on Carlton and then blinked after all .....regardless of Yarren playing this year or not, one second rounder should have done it.

We can't change what's been done. The old saying is you can't change history but you should learn from it. Hopefully our football dept. has learnt.
Time will tell.

But we did 7, picks 31 and 24 = pick 11

Richardson royally stuffed up.

Just like he will roll over and give up our pick 6 for dodgy knee Prestia.

Where did the current Yarran thread go? I'd like to read reactions to the article published in the HS this afternoon.

Edit: Never mind, Rumours board. :headscratch

Everybody knew about the drugs and the gambling except, apparently, the brain surgeons doing the recruiting for Richmond

I had no idea we would trade in someone using ICE!!
What a schemozzle. ???
How hard is it to test for? AND he was injecting FFS, "show is your arms buddy". AND wouldn't we, given the nature of the beast, have thought to have someone spend a few days with him and how he was living his life? AND wouldn't all contracts have a disclaimer regarding drug use? Why are we paying out a guy who intentionally deceived the club and hid a drug addiction from us when we employed him. Shambles.

I am with you here - Yarran should have been fined rather than paid out. Carlton have the duty of care for him, not us. We were stupid recruiting him but some blame has to sit with that rotten club for not disclosing and squeezing out that low pick for him. Some say good move Silvani - I say KARMA is a *smile*!

I would almost guarantee it would be outside the rules for clubs to test, as it currently is they are approved ASADA testers by/for AFL.

Of course RFC could have had the deal subject to meaning it would be at his choosing should he wish to join, although the AFLPA could have had a dig and dragged our name around.

Either way im more practical about it, it was a error no shining away however everyone makes mistakes, time to move forward.

We were stooged.

He stooged us.

With these revelations I have no feeling as a lot ( even if all we had we rumours ) at the time should have walked away.

I understand the club once committed would be seen in a different light but we often talk about ( crossing your I's & T's ) & due diligence wasn't done here. Should have but didn't just walk away.

AND we paid him & paid part of his remaining salary. Amateurish.

But in all this , drugs are a massive issue in society.

Lewis was ridiculed so long ago.

Why would it be different in AFL circles?

Easy , quick large salaries ( most ) for these young players , so much time ( free ) , easily obtained and cheap.

On the positive, we were proud of our embraceful good character culture at the time. Surround him with love and hope his drug addiction is cured by compassion. Doesn't work that way.

I'm not a fan of using "mental health" issues as a cover for ice addiction, sleeping with your best mate's wife, beating up women, etc.

The AFL and everyone involved should stop tarnishing the mental health label by using it as code for something far worse as it damages regular people in society who have legitimate mental health issues.

Was it arrogance or stupidity for the RFC to rate their system so much better than Carlton's?
RFC thought they could spin straw into gold and ended up with a scarecrow!

On a positive note: Other clubs must be queuing up to offer Richmond more magic beans.....
